Just Cause developers, Avalanche Studios, have finally released gameplay footage of their upcoming Mad Max game. We initially saw this at an E3 behind closed doors demonstration so I can tell you that much of what you're seeing in this trailer is actual gameplay, if perhaps shown in a bit more cinematic way than it will be in the game.

The game is completely open world, utilizes an open mission structure, heavy car customization, and what Avalanche calls “Emergent Car Combat” which allows each car combat section to play out differently. Read: No real scripted moments here.

Car combat in Mad Max is also much more melee focused than in something like, say, Twisted Metal. You'll spend a lot of time physically ramming other cars, and using your shotgun to shoot off enemies who cling on to yours. In the demonstration we saw, it looked like a ton of fun, with really good feedback throughout. You can check out our initial thoughts on Mad Max from E3 here.

Avalanche have also recently announced they will be hiring an Australian voice actor to play the part of Max, after some fan outcry was started when it was heard that this would not be the case.

If avalanche can pull this off, it will be the first Mad Max game since the 1990 NES release. Which was, by all accounts, terrible.

Certainly something I'm going to be keeping my eye on, open world Twisted Metal? Yes please!

Kudos to them for not being predictable and just releasing Just Cause 3.

I'm still absolutely in love with what Avalanche has been saying about their ambitions with this game, it's just a damn shame we didn't get to see more of it in this trailer.

I'm pretty excited to see more - love me some Mad Max. It's just too bad Mel Gibson went off the deep end...
