og:image: castlevania lords of shadow 2, open world

Were you somewhat turned off by the linerality of the original Lords of Shadow? Some of us were, while others argued that the game followed more traditional -pre Symphony of the Night- mechanics. The argument persisted, but we may not be having it when Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is released.

Additional information has been announced concerning the Mercury Steam title at Konami's Pre-E3 Presentation and it looks as if the sequel will feature an open world and modern setting, which was hinted at during the final moments of the original Lords of Shadow.

Mercury Steam's Enric Alvarez described the developers willingness to create a world that would  "grow organically, and not level-to-level," and also feature no loading times. As for any 'metroidvania' elements...well that remains up in the air, but an open world that can be freely explored is certainly fertile ground for such a thing.

The modern setting will only be in part, however, with a large portion of the game taking place in Dracula's Castle...which I can only presume is in the middle of a thirving city of people who want NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SCARY CASTLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THEIR CITY.

Also announced, Patrick Stewart will be making a return for the sequel. And there was much rejoicing.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will be released this winter. Check out the new trailer below.

Just remember Jospeh, next time you see an old half naked meth head roaming the streets, he could actually be Dracula himself!

At least this GOW clone will be more fun to play than current GOW.
