A round of media and previews for Wolfenstein: The New Order have now hit the internet and coming off my piece from a few weeks ago concerning the new direction of the series, I must say that I'm a bit ambivalent.
First though, the positives.
As I mentioned not long ago, I'm enjoying the aesthetic quite a bit. It has an Iron sky / Bladerunner feel that will treat the series well. Especially if the art style continues outward from the direction we've seen so far, and becomes even more of a spectacle. Some will equate it to Killzone but that's fine since I always did like the art style of those games. The New Order, however, seems to take that gritty -almost Warhammer 40kish- feel and ramp up the 1950s futuristic stylings even more. Overall, I'm just happy the developers stayed away from anything resembling a classic World War II motif.
I also like the feedback we're seeing in both the environment and the enemies. Bodies react well to being hit, the environment seems to fall apart slightly in firefights, and the section where the player uses a type of plasma-cutter to open a hole from which to snipe from is especially exciting.
The feedback on the robots, however, seemed minimal compared to other fun robot-fighting titles like Binary Domain. It's important that pieces of the robots fall off almost continually as they at you. Not only does this add to the great visual feedback the player can get from fighting them, it also adds to the fear factor of fighting this unholy machine that, even though is falling apart before your very eyes, just...keeps...coming.
The stealth gameplay also seems completely unnecessary for a Wolfenstein game and I'm afraid that this might be just the beginning of the nonsensical lip service it might be paying to more modern shooters. Even if MachineWorks wants to employ slower moments for the player to take in the world or overhear plot conversations, there are better ways to do that than making me crouch around waste high piles of random boxes.
But duel wielding shotguns? Yes. That laser blaster thing? Meh. Driving sequences? Tell me more...

The laser would be more interesting if you could use it to carve a hole in the robots. Otherwise, seeing them kind of fall over after being shot a hundred times is going to really suck. The prospect of killing something by drawing a dong on entertains me though.
Stealth could work in small doses, like my idea of giving him a welrod and having to ambush enemies for a better gun when you run out of ammo. Maybe disengage from a fire fight and lead them somewhere you can get the jump on them from a locker or behind some boxes.

Whilst I don't care much for Josephs opinions I have to admit gameplay here looked kind of meh, though I will remain optimistic since this dev team has always made games I enjoy.

Joseph, were you trying to say BloodRayne instead of Blade Runner? It's a good thing they are adding some corny stuff like one liners and ridiculous guns. I do agree, robots need to be dismembered. I want to see arms and legs flying and big droids crushing down. Go play Mechwarriors, MachineWorks.

It looked pretty interesting to me. Anad I have o agree with you that stealth part was unnecessary.I really like that laser waepon that can cut through some surfaces.

Nothing remarkable about this gameplay. If anything it looks like another Killzone.
I wish these devs would have the balls to remove ironsights for smoother gameplay, it's not a standard in FPS they just think it is.
