Telltale games is giving us the first look at their upcoming episodic game 'The Wolf Among Us' which is based on Bill Willingham's award-winning comic book series 'Fables.'

But what is Fables you ask? Well think of it sort of like The Watchmen but with fantasy characters.

A consistent New York Times bestseller, 'FABLES' is one of DC Entertainment's longest-running series published under its Vertigo imprint since 2002.  With over a dozen Eisner Awards, including Best Writer, Best New Series, and numerous wins for Best Serialized Story, the FABLES universe has become one of the richest mythologies in the world of comics, imagining that characters like Snow White, The Big Bad Wolf and Pinocchio from the world's most beloved storybooks are real - Real, and living among us, with all of their powers intact.

Personally, this is my favorite type of comic book story. Heroes thrown into the real world, being real people, pooping like the rest of us yet still having to deal with the tremendous responsibility of stepping up when bad shit goes down. The Wolf Among Us puts you into the shoes of Bigby Wolf -who used to be The Big Bad Wolf of fairytale lore- who is the sheriff of the Nightbreed-ish society of fairy tale characters who have been expunged from their home.

Set prior to the events seen in the first issue of the FABLES comic book series, The Wolf Among Us puts players in the role of Bigby Wolf, a man once more infamously known as The Big Bad Wolf.  Now the sheriff of a hidden community in New York City, exiled from the land of fairy tales, Bigby is tasked by the bureaucrat Snow White to keep order within a society of mythical creatures and characters trying to remain undetected in the world of the mundane.  From a chain-smoking member of 'The Three Little Pigs,' to a car-stealing Mr. Toad itching for his next wild ride, The Wolf Among Us examines the lives of beings straight from the pages of myth and lore, now trying to survive on the meanest and most run-down streets of New York City.

As you can see, this is far, far removed from the childrens stories these characters are based on, and if the story didn't convince you then the art style will. Shown in gritty, highly detailed, comic-book fashion, The Wolf Among Us looks to be one of the more artistically thrilling downloadable titles we've seen so far.

Telltale Games is providing more details in the coming weeks and a full reveal at E3 2013, but we know it's slated for release later this summer on XBLA, PSN and PC.

We'll bring you more when we get it.

The art style really works well. It does suit a comic series. Will Humpty Dumpty have any powers?

I've read most of the books in the Fable series and I can't wait to see how this game turns out, plus it looks like it's going to be in the same art style as the comics, if not more detailed.

Hopefully the game will be more like TWD and less like their previous games.
