During this mornings Direct Presentation Nintendo revealed that the Nintendo Virtual Console would be coming to the Wii U in North America next week, slathered in as much nostalgia as you can fit in Dom Deluises' gapping maw.

Wii U's Virtual console's launch lineup will include:

  • Excitebike,
  • Super Mario World,
  • Mario Bros.
  • Punch-Out,
  • Super Metroid,
  • Balloon Fight, and
  • F-Zero.

With much more planned for the future. Not a bad start if you ask me. In comparison, Virtual Console for the Wii now contains hundreds of classic and handheld games for users to download.

So you get NES emulator on Wii U and will have to pay for ROMS? Something that is already available on your PC, tablet and a phone for free.

I've played all these games before on the original system. I have them on my laptop through emulators. Why would I buy for them again? Is Nintendo hoping I feel nostalgic enough to throw more money at them?

These comments are ridiculous. Some of us have never played these games and therefore would absolutely be pirating if we were to download the ROMs when there are (or will soon be) perfectly legal and convenient ways to purchase them. Get over yourselves, you're not the intended market and there's no reason for you to be complaining about this.

Wait...you mean NA didn't have the virtual console before? I thought it was a day 1 feature.

    OMG...my mind = blown!

Wait... So are your original wii purchases carried over?
