Back in August Techland starting making mention of Project Hell, a dark fantasy hack n' slash FPS which is quite unlike Dead Island which is a zombie hack n' slash FPS. Totally different you see.

But that was then, and now -since they have Dead Island: Riptide out of the way- Techland has officially announced the game as Hellraid, and provided some details that actually do seem to set it apart from the zombie slashing we've come to expect.

The game is still dark fantasy themed with an emphasis on melee combat and magic combinations, but the meat of the game is in the 4-player cooperative component which has one person acting as a sort of Game Master who's job is to manage loot and enemy spawns. In my mind I'm thinking something akin to a mixture of Dungeon Keeper or Trapt here, but with real players rather than AI. The idea, fully flushed out, can be a great addition so long as Techland can get all the other T's crossed in the gameplay.

Details are scant at the moment, but Techland is promising more “soon”. Hellraid is slated for release sometime this year.

This looks promising but Techland sometimes do things right and wrong, will wait for gameplay before deciding whether or not its worth my time.

Really? They give you assholes with swords to fight but they had to shoe in zombies as well. Zombies with swords....

I'm wondering when everyone is going to pull their heads out of their asses and realize that if you're going to do the zombie genre any justice, you make an RTS out of it.
