After expanding the world of Skyrim by allowing us to join a vampire coven, build our own home and adopt children, and then go off to an island (Solstheim) just off Morrowind, Bethesda Softworks has stated that DLC production of Skyrim is complete and the studio is now moving on to new projects.

It's been a good run for Skyrim since launch, and even though some feel Dragonborn (the final DLC) was the best of the bunch, Bethesda also went out of their way to support the modding community with the release of their Creation Kit, and also produced some Kinect content that (gasp!) actually worked well within the game. But all good things must end, and there's something big on the horizon.

In a statement on their blog, Bethesda said:

For the last year and a half we’ve been working on new content for Skyrim; from the game updates, Creation Kit, Steam Workshop, Kinect support, to DLCs. Parts of our team have also been in pre-production on our next major project, and that game is at the point where it requires the studio’s full attention to make it our biggest and best work yet.

Even though we’re moving on, we’ll still have minor updates to Skyrim as needed. We’ve invested so much of ourselves into Skyrim and will never truly say goodbye to it.

I think we all know what's being referred to here. Fallout 4 is currently on everyone's mind, now we just wait for an official announcement.

Lets just hope they're not moving on to bigger and better things... like expanded MMO support.

Maybe I'm thinking too far ahead, but I hope that Bethesda is now working on something elder scrolls related for next-gen platforms. I really want to see "TESVI: Hammerfell".

From the gates of Oblivion, through the Capital wasteland, and finishing off with the Nordic tundra, Bethesda gave this generation 3 amazing games that we will always be able to go back to and see just how amazing it all was. But with all good things there must come an end, and with the PS4 coming out this holiday season marking the next generation of console gaming, I can not think that I am the only one thinking this, "Damn, I wonder what Bethesda can really do now?"

It will almost certainly be another amazing ride in store for us this new generation, so raise my glass and tip my hat to you Bethesda, you truly make me proud to be a gamer.

Thank god, it's about fucking time they've moved on. Who even bought the DLC on PC, what with all the mods out?

I am very curious about what their next project will be. FO4? Sure maybe, but I would really like to see what they could do with an entire new IP/universe.

My care factor For Skyrim (as well as Oblivion) has been 0 but hopefully This means that Bethesda will work on a new IP and not a dumbed down elder scrolls game.
