It feels like Game Engine Week! Well it is GDC after all when these types of showy bits get brought into the light. This particular showy bit was supposed to be released today at noon in San Francisco during the Epic Games talk but has -as is custom- made it onto the glorious internets early. The internets who shall always provide. Bless them.
This newest UE4 tech demo is really just as beautiful as the original tech demo we saw but in much the opposite way. Having most probably caught onto the particle jokes, Epic has replaced them with super high-resolution textures, wide open areas and bucket-load of style. I'm partial to the sci-fi setting myself.
Mark Rein, vp at Epic has already come out to state that the demo is running in-engine in real time on a 'single off-the-shelf Nvidia GTX 680'
Although the demo is great, it is just a demo. What you're seeing was never produced to become an actual game. Having said that, however, imagine a Mass Effect game looking like this.

On a single GTX 680, that's impressive. If I remember right Samaritan UT3 tech demo was running on more than one GPU. 680 is not even the top of the line right now. That means we should see this kind of fidelity in an actual game a year from now. Come on developers, make it happen.
P.S. there are also rumors that Valve might have shown their new Source 2 engine behind closed doors. They did show something that was "impressive".
