Sony have always been pretty savvy marketers. There was the recently fabulous Long, Live, Play campaign -where on that day we were all Michael- and I have fond memories of their creative and quirky commercials throughout the late 90's. Although, to be honest, all commercials were especially weird around that time.

Sony seems to remember as well, and have released a small retrospective of their PS1 and PS2 in the run-up to the expected announcement of the PS4 on Wednesday.

I really enjoy watching the old footage they put up, and I have a soft place in my heart for old video game commercials in general. They have this air of an older marketing guy in a bad suit just trying to wrap his mind around “what those damn kids want to hear nowadays” and throwing up his hands in frustration as he finally decides to just throw as much weird shit at the screen as possible.

You know...the good stuff.

For introspective hilarity, you can catch our live commentary during the Sony Press Conference as it happens.

I like how they went over the EyeToy. The original Kinect.

Trying to appeal to emotion, huh Sony? Well I still remember the other bad Descisions you've made. Sounds pretty awesome that you guys are going to do a live commentary. I'm down for watching!

"Although, to be honest, all commercials were especially weird around that time."

That's so very true, especially the commercials aimed at kids. Come to think of it, everything seemed more quirky back then. I miss the '90s.

"Hey plumber boy, mustache man. Your worst nightmare has arrived." Damn, that ad was so great. Is there going to be a live broadcast of the conference anywhere?

Oh boy, watching that ps2 flashback sent a stinge at my childhood, so much fun had with my ps2. I remember the christmas morning I recieved mine along with crash bandicoot with all the time warp goo-dads and elemental masks; not to mention the goofy eye-toy, all my time spent flying punches in the empty air infront of it; it is most likely mocked today but it does the EXACT same thing a kinect does now.

Anyway, nice post jospeh, I hope the ps4 impresses us all and renews life in console technology and general capabilities.
