We learned recently, and also quite hilariously, that EA was going to be including microtransactions in Dead Space 3 because...hey...what gamer out there really doesn't want to spend more than the $60 they already coughed up. Especially in this economy where money is flowing like a river from the ass of the Gods into our open and yearning mouths. If there is anything a console gamer wants, it's microtransactions. We've all been very clear on this.

Luckily EA has heard our plea's, you know the ones. “WE WANT TO SPEND MORE EA!” and “$60 ISN'T ENOUGH”. And who can forget “WE WANT YOU TO KILL CONSOLE AND PC GAMING THE WAY MOBILE GAMING IS COMMITING SUICIDE.” And released the list of transactions on the playstation store. Destructoid laid them out:

  • Bot Capacity Upgrade $4.99

  • Bot Personality Pack $4.99

  • First Contact Pack Free

  • Marauder Pack $4.99

  • Sharpshooter Pack $4.99

  • Tundra Recon Pack $4.99

  • Witness the Truth Pack $4.99

  • Bot Accelerator $4.99

  • Epic Weapon & Resource Pack $2.99

  • Online Pass $9.99

  • Ultra Weapon & Resource Pack $1.99

  • Resource Pack $0.99

As you can see, some of these come with a serious-fucking price tag when you tack on the initial price of entry. Most of these are linked to scavaging and the weapons crafting system, but you'll also notice the Online Pass fee which we can expect to be standard from now on. Though I will say that some of these seem like regular DLC to me. Things like the “Tundra Recon Pack” and the “Marauder Pack” sound like outfits, but the “Bot Personality Pack” sounds like something that would be awesome to have in the ACTUAL GAME.

This entire thing is just depressing if you ask me. I've come to accept DLC, but we're moving into the direction of a game being released 'bare bones' for $60, and it won't be till you spend extra till the greatness of it comes out. Someone wake me up from this nightmare.

ya, its sad. Must be due to the increasing cost of actually making video games and the lack of New Games actually being sold vs Rentals.

Someone give EA a round of applause, they found a new way to release almost the full game price's worth of day-one DLC. All of those packs together, including the online pass, add up to 50 bucks. 50 bucks worth of what can be considered DLC, all on release day.

A few higher-ups at EA must be giving themselves one hell of a celebratory handjob right now.

Wouldn’t it be horrible if the “Witness the Truth Pack” was an extension to the games ending like the epilogue DLC for the 2008 Prince of Persia?

There's a reason I rarely buy games, and this seems like the PERFECT crystallization of it.

This is par for the course for EA. Does anyone honestly expect anything better from them? I've said it a thousand times and I'll say it again: my opinion of EA cannot possibly be any lower. It's Zynga low.

R1, R2, L1, X, left, down, right, up, left, down, right, up: refill health, armor, and $200,000. Sorry, I was just reading my codebook on GTA: San Andreas. I hope GTA5 doesnt pull this shit.

Can't you get all of this in the game without buying it? These are not DLCs and unless it's something purely cosmetic, it should be obtainable in the game by just playing.

Why do you hate this amazing feature, its like those free to play games that are all the rage these days. Except you get the *quality* that comes with an EA product, so its a win-win situation for everyone. You get a *quality* game, those who don't want to can pay to get parts and I get more money to ruin your favorite series with.

I can only imagine their next shooter coming out with an "Extra Ammo Pack" or a "Melee Kill Pack". And then we end up with DLC Quest.

Free day one DLC? Why isn't it on the disc?

Purchased Dead Space 1 and Dead Space 2 and enjoyed them.

Definitely won't be buying Dead Space 3 with the Fee to Pay model corroding and distorting the game. Optional or not, this is absolutely not a free to play game so importing the business model from those type of games is completely inappropriate and insulting to players.

    Hope you're happy EA.

So what is this 'Online Pass' suppose to do? Do you have to pay an additional fee to play online? On top of an Xbox Live fee?

Next thing you know, you will be playing and then the screen will go black just before a boss fight and it will say "pay to fight the boss" :D wonderful isn't it. Don't forget you can also "pay to have the boss beat for you" :D

This is a travesty and an insult to honest consumers , I can't wait until this game falls flat on its face.
Why such a high price for DLC , whats actually in the game that warrants 5 dollar price tag.

5 dollars is a lot to some people ,the people who wont be buying this game I imagine. .

Games have been doing this for years now (especially EA games). I don't know why everyone is kicking up a fuss about this now.
