It's quite possible that we might have had a new 3D version of Streets of Rage, and Ruffian Games -developers of Crackdown 2- were going to be the ones to do it.

Both Gaz Liddon, studio head of Ruffian and Sean Noonan, a former Ruffian employee, have already come forward to confirm the projects historical existence with the former posting a video of the game (shown below). The gameplay shown is pre-alpha prototype footage but still shows the direction the game was heading it. Modernized, yet still really channeling that old-school feel.

"Here are some scenes from a playable prototype. It was something we built very rapidly and represents pre-pre-pre-pre (lots of pres) pre-Alpha quality. Even so it has a certain charm :). Gaz Liddon wrote. "What's the story behind it all? Like a lot of developers we work on a lot of different prototypes, they're just not usually shown in public. In this case an older version of the same video was leaked last week which came as a bit of a surprise if I'm honest. As it had no sound I thought there wouldn't be any harm sharing a version with audio."

As a downloadable co-op game, I would have been all over this if it was ever to come to fruition, but unfortunately the project is dead for now.

Honestly, that looked like almost every 3D beat-em-up ever.

Looks terrible if you ask me - i'm glad it got canceled. Make it more akin to Double Dragon Neon and then we'll talk. Double Dragon Neon was a great throw back to the games of old and still brought something fresh and exciting to the table at the same time. It really helped scratch that side scrolling beat em up itch. The video above just looks positively generic.

What was up with the random Qemist song at the end?
While I miss the mindless beat em up games of the past this looked kinda crappy.
