Say what you will about Call of Duty being the same game every year. Scream into your pillow about how it's killing the video game industry and will lead to another crash. Spend long -expensive- hours on your therapists' couch telling him how you can foresee a day when no one buys an FPS anymore.

Because Gamestop and Activision will tell you that you're wrong...and apparently the numbers are on their side.

Talking to Business Week, Gamestop reported they sold 1 million copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 during the midnight launch period, making it their largest launch of all time. And it doesn't stop there. Oh no. Sales are continuing at a brisk pace and they expect worldwide sales to reach between 6.5 and 7 million within the first 24 hours.

24 hours.

One day.

As Dr. Frankenstein from Day of the Dead would say. “We are in the minority now, something like 400,000 to one by my calculation.”

And you know what? Who am I to say what people should and should not be playing. Sure I want games like Dishonored and XCOM to do better, but whatever. Hell with it, I might even pick up some BLOPS 2 myself to bathe in the mindless -yet usually fun- multiplayer action at the end of a long day. And deep inside I know that me telling someone that COD is dumb is just as bad as someone telling me that Dragon's Dogma has too many numbers.

Just play something and be happy.

I wonder if these numbers are just going to keep increasing every year.

I'm interested to see if GTA V can muster up these kinds of sales numbers.

I like COD and I'm not ashamed to say it. The sheer value per dollar is probably the best in the industry. And say what you want about the campaign being the same (it is), but BLOPS 2 actually shook up the multiplayer and zombies as much as they could without turning it into a different game. Also, no online pass required is a plus. I think it's great, sue me.

Tbh I really don't dislike COD at all its more the people who only play COD games and consider themselves the core demographic for gaming that irritates me to no end.

Does this make me slightly sad inside? Yes...
Does it surprise me? Not in the least.

Last time I read it has made over half a billion dollars, according to Activision. I mean with this kind of numbers, the video game industry dosen't need to cater to the needs of a few geeks or nostalgic ''hardcore gamers'' of yore. We ain't in Kansas anymore.
