Ubisoft has been releasing quite a few trailers for Far Cry 3 recently but this one really caught my attention. It does a good job of intersecting the story with the multitude of open-world mechanics which we've seen beforehand. Large areas, open vehicles, wild animals (SHARKS AND BEARS OH MY!), all acting in synthesis with a heavy story element. And though the main voice actor leaves a bit to be desired, it is more than made up for by the multitude of fascinating characters that inhabit the entirety of the trailer.

I should also note that the music is fantastic as well.

This synthesis of game mechanics is important. It was particularly missing from Assassin's Creed III which had great systems that were, unfortunately, integrated poorly with each other. And this disjointedness took a fairly large bite out of my love for that game. I'm hoping that Far Cry 3 can do it right.

It looks as if that's going to be the case.

And on a final note, a heavy story element can also take away from FC3's enjoyment if it is saddled onto the player too roughly. FC3 should allow the player to abandon the main story almost altogether -in Elder Scrolls fashion- and opt to simply explore the island at their leisure. It's a delicate balance, but one I hope they execute.

Gotta love punching sharks in the face.

I didn't really give a shit about FC3 the first time it was announced, but it's starting to look like a solid sandbox experience.
