Screens of Mass Effect 3 have been released today, and looking at them I think reveals an important paradigm for approaching the Wii U in general. They clearly illustrate that the Wii U won't be the technological powerhouse that the next Xbox and PlayStation are positioning themselves as, and once again Nintendo is finding itself in the position of bringing new—perhaps slightly underpowered—tech to the field first and getting the jump on competitors. But games like Project P100 and built-in peripherals like the touchscreen point to a company no longer interested in competing in a contemporary fashion, but rather innovating on the wayside toward a niche market.

Ultimately, any talk of the Wii U as being "graphically" or "processor" proficient is missing the entire point of what Nintendo is not trying to do as a company.  And the only way this works is if Nintendo embrace this themselves.  They can't get too focused on the Mass Effect's or Call of Duty's because those are experiences gamers already have...and truth of it is that there isn't much the Wii U can do besides remove a menu inventory to improve on those experiences.

It'll be interesting to see how this game runs on the Wii, but I am a bit confused as to "why do it in the first place?"

    Shouldn't this say "Wii U"?

I think it looks great for a Wii-U game and it also proves a point i made on another topic awhile ago...
If you can't meet the graphical standard, you just have to be artistic about it.

"They clearly illustrate that the Wii won’t be the technological powerhouse that the next Xbox and PlayStation are positioning themselves as"

Thats not what it says AT ALL

It means the system will be an absolute powerhouse

The wii u AT LAUNCH is doing things it took the ps3 6 YEARS TO DO

The ps3 at launch was a glorified ps2 for awhile

You are aware that its only a port? Not even the PC version looks any better unless you mod it which is a shame really. The game could look even better on the PC if they took the time.

I would be lying if I said that I was impressed.
This just convinces me even more that the Wii U is not really anything special. Show me exclusives that are not the Marios...the Zeldas...the Metroids...etc. etc. etc.

    Nothing too impressive.

A port is a port. To be honest, I think system specs are going to matter more than people are giving them credit this coming console generation. I haven't even turned on my PS3 for more than 2 hours in the past month, the "Big 3" are going to have to do more than just integrate with tablets to convince me not to just invest in a better gaming rig and stock up on Steam & GoG sales.

I can't get excited for games I can already play now.
