As part of the Borderlands 2 marketing campaign, Gearbox Software have deconstructed Borderlands 2 into its most pure parts and is now offering it up to you like some sort of Dark Crystal juice to make you feel young again.

This 8-bit (maybe more like 16 bit now that I think about it) version of the game is available on this page in the official Borderlands 2 website.  It plays like an NES version of Smash TV  and includes the four playable characters from Borderlands 2 and weapon crates for you to upgrade your gear.

It's also playable in your browser so you now you  have something to slack off at work with.  It's also quite fun. I would have written this 20 minutes but...you know...8-Bit Borderlands.

Play it here.

[UPDATE] The original link listed is no longer available.  You can visit the Borderlands Wikia page about the game for more information and updated links to play the demake here.

Dear God. Thank you, Joseph. Now I have something to do before Borderlands 2 comes out!

To be completely fair, the game feels pretty half-assed. And I'm saying this as a DayZ player. It's annoying that some of the weapons are utterly ineffective, and because you're very often forced to change your gear mid-combat, accidentally choosing a weapon with a "random" can result in an unfair death. Still, I very much appreciate the idea of celebrating your game's release with a contribution to the flash minigame community.
