4pp, 4player, Planetside 2 beta

SOE president John Smedley, who seems to be one of those people who tweet in all caps constantly has tweeted that the Planetside 2 beta will begin Monday or Tuesday next week " BARRING ANY UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES."

For those who have not already gotten a beta code, invites will be going out in waves including to players of the original game. Smedley explained the process:

There seems to be some confusion about PS1 Vets and the PS2 Beta. Let me clear it up once and for all. There are going to be multiple phases of the beta. Simply put we are adding more people in different waves simply due to capacity. Every single PS1 player who has ever subscribed to the game will have their Station Account activated at some point during the beta beginning with people who actively are subscribers. Again though we can only let in so many people during each phase so invitations are by necessity going to be staggered. So basically if you've ever subbed to the game you're going to be in. However current subs are in the front of the line for that. In addition we have Priority beta keys given out [and] they will be let in in the early phases as well. For people that ask me, "I played from 2005-2007 am I in soon?" the answer is you will be in in an early phase.

The day fans of the MMOFPS have been waiting for is quickly coming to fruition.  Interested in joining the 4Player Terrain Republic Clan? Well you can find out all about that here.

UPDATE: The beta has been delayed to Friday August 3rd or Monday August 6th.

With this game being developed by Sony and Dust 514 being for the time being a PS3 exclusive and both game looking to be quite similar I have to wonder what kind of stuff went in the background in order for this kind of thing to happen? I would imagine that Sony would have tried to get this onto the PS3 and just leave Dust (no pun intended) in the dust. Now that I think of it though, maybe something as risky as Planetside 2 that would would have a direct monetary impact on Sony this late in the PS3 life cycle would not have been the best decision busyness-wise.

    “ BARRING ANY UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES.”
Just today they release a huge patch, almost 6GB in size, and everything is broken now. Tanks teleport around, players vanish in front of you, bullets fly from nowhere, client disconnects... Hopefully they can fix until next week because the game was running just fine before.
