Today THQ has released what they are calling an "all gameplay trailer" for their upcoming -and recently delayed title- Darksiders 2.
For those initiated into 4player, you might know that the original Darksiders wasn't really my favorite game. In fact, I couldn't even get myself to finish it. Perhaps it's due for me to revisit once more, but at the I eventually found the game to be somewhat banal and tired after spending a good chunck of hours killing enemy after enemy in environments that I found did not do enough to really differentiate each other.
Of course, it's been awhile so I might be forgetting one or two fantastic gameplay moments that broke up the monotony. But overall, it just wasn't able to get those claws into me.
Fast forward to now, and the new footage we're seeing of Darksiders 2. Things are really looking up for the series from what I can see and I'm really liking the much broader, environments and enemies that we'll be encountering this time around. I'm still not completely sold on the art style, to be honest, which seems to just go a bit too far, too consistently; becoming a Todd McFarlane-type sludge that does little to differentiate the individual parts.
But that's just an artsy nitpick, and the great things I'm hearing about the gameplay is what's really drawing me in. Skill trees, randomized loot and deeper RPG elements are just some of the great things that I'm really looking forward to trying. And though I may never go back to the original Darksiders, I think it's safe to say that I'm going to play the hell out of Darksiders 2.
Check out the new trailer below.

I loved Darksiders and have been looking forward to the sequel since the great ending to the first game. Can't fucking wait for this.

The sequences showing big open areas really grab my attention.

This might be my first Darksiders.

This is looking to be the perfect sequel, focusing on what was good about the original and adding new elements to make it less of a God of War clone. Mercury Steam should be taking notes.
