It's no secret that I'm a fan of the Battlefield series. I've been playing the game since 1942 and have chucked down an extra $50 for a Premium Membership to BF3. (I know, I know. I'm one of those people)
So allow me a moment to pontificate my excitement for the new Armored Kill trailer released today. Having focused recently on small scale squad-based combat with the Close Quarters expansion pack, DICE is now blowing the walls apart, so to speak, and releasing a new expansion with huge, vehicle based, maps and new rides for players to ride around in.
However, one thing I especially like seeing here are the new environments. Snow levels, popular in Battlefield: Bad Company 2, are making a return as well as forested and mountain areas. It also looks like the color palette has been beefed up as well with the new levels looking much more bright and contrast-y.
In my opinion, vehicles work the best in Battlefield when the maps are as huge as can be, giving tanks and aerial vehicles more room to manevour, hide, and engage at long distances -think the Harvest Day map on Bad Company 2- to provide some truly epic Battlefield moments. Looks like we're going to be getting some of that here as well.
Check out the trailer below.

I'm curious as to whether DICE will ever increase the max player count for consoles, especially with this new expansion pack coming out featuring large maps. I'm no expert on the matter, but from what I understand the reason they keep it low is to ensure everyone playing on consoles experiences a (relatively) lag-free experience. I remember reading (on a DICE blog post I think) that it was certainly possible for them to increase player-counts for servers on consoles, especially for those with higher bandwidth internet.

That snow map. Ungh. Besides that I hope the new vehicles actually work well and that Bandar Desert isn't too big on the 64 player version.

Damn, that trailer bring some good memories of Desert Combat mode for BF 1942. Looking forward to artilery vehicles.

AC130 FTW!
Can't wait to get in on that...and the artillery vehicles. It's going to be sweet.

If Close Quarters was supposed to be oriented for squad-based combat, then I really do feel like crying for the Battlefield series.
