At the Sony press conference, just a little while ago, Naughty Dog released the first public gameplay trailer for The Last of Us. Everyone in the theater new it was coming. Everyone was excited for the game, but no one was prepared for just how good it would be.

I've been concerned with the project since the beginning, wanting a very human protagonist and not someone who was too action hero.  I wanted a weak character in a dangerous wold. I wanted limited resources and high vulnerability with a heavy emphasis on survival.

Last of Us has delivered on all of it, and it's simply amazing.

I was cheering along with the crowd during this video. The way that they handle the Co-op with the little girl is amazing, and how they handle the ammo. It's low, but not too low. Also enemies react in a human way, "OH SHIT, he's got a gun!"

This makes me frown at my xbox in disappointment, making it feel insecure about itself.

I could not agree more. I haven't been this awed by a gameplay trailer in a long time. It came right after the God of War demo and somehow they managed to make all of the violence in it feel way harsher and tense than anything in the GoW presentation by a mile.

Though the game has the atmosphere right, I'm still curious about the mechanics. I can't tell if the hand-to-hand combat is real time or not, doesn't really look like it. The menu that was used to make the molotov seemed like it had potential, but it makes me even more worried about the person playing not checking all the bodies around 5:38, like there isn't all that much emphasis on checking the bodies for supplies. I suppose most supply-gathering could be in the environment, but this demo didn't show it so that's still up in the air. The reactions to being shot and the AI's reaction to having a gun shoved in their face was done wonderfully, though.

    Eh

Not digging the Uncharted-style "walk forward and kill dudes" approach

But hey, it's just a demo

I'm into it. Very very cool. I felt re-energized after watching that clip. I love how tense fighting (or not fighting) a couple o' dudes can be.

    I. Want. More....

In a way, this made up for the 'Book of Spells' stunt earlier in the presser.

    Looks great!
But since I don't own any console, I guess I will watch a broadcast of the game. :)

I liked it, not loved it. Dude with no gun and a little girl takes on 5 thugs...seems a bit reckless? If it's a true survival game, you should be trying to avoid these kind of lopsided confrontations not jumping into them. But then again, it's a game and action is needed.

Wow. Best 14 min and 46 sec I've spent in a while. (You read that right; I watched it twice) If this is just dealing with other survivors, I have to wonder at how combat with the infected/mutants/whatever will be.
