Today, a few weeks before release, Rockstar has released the launch trailer for Max Payne 3.

The interesting thing about this trailer is its almost complete lack of gun-play in exchange for story cinematics and tone. And I don't see this as a bad thing at all. Rockstar has been showing off the shooting mechanics for months now through developer diaries, in essence probably trying to allay fears some had after groaning through subpar shooting in multiple GTA titles, and are using this moment to do more work setting the tone for the title.

The iconic comic-book style isn't there, but honestly I'm glad it isn't. Sure it was great to see back in the day, but a slew of titles have used that approach recently -Motorstorm: Apocalypse, Starhawk, Renegade Ops, just off the top of my head- and for this title I think I would like to see a more fluid approach. Something Rockstar, with their seamless transitions from cutscene to gameplay, are certainly nailing this time around.

Have any final thoughts for this title before we get our hands on it? Let them out in the comments below.

I've always loved the max payne series, and I'm so happy to see that it still carries that spirit, while I really dug the comic panel style of storytelling 1 and 2 had it's been used in games since so I guess it would not make a big difference today.
bulletime looks amazing as ever, Rockstar seems to have actually made a competent action game (red dead was an improvement, but come on) this time around, and jumpy-shooty-slowmotion-y as the old Max Payne games.
I'm truly excited for this, I hope it doesn't disappoint.

Nothing new to say, Joey. Looks to be one hell of a 3rd person shooter and DAT BULLET TIME--it looks like it feels so good. To me Max's similes and metaphors aren't what they once were, but I really don't care by this point. I'm here to see how the character's reacting to this new environment and "fight some foo's." , as Carlos would say.

I started to get really interested in this trailer, but around mid-way, I noticed all of the violence, explosions, kidnapping, drug taking and alcohol drinking felt out of place. The ending scene reclaimed the feeling that I lost upon that realization, but I can't help but worry for this game and the audience they're aiming for.

It felt really good to hear the theme song and too see Max chugging painkillers once again. However I am still a little worried about the hole terrorist/guerrilla warfare looking parts. I really hope they are not trying to hard. I'm still kinda pissed that they had to add a cover system. To me the games where always about dodging bullets not hiding behind a wall, but that is a hole other topic.

Nothing to say really its already a given that this will be a successful game but my only problem with it is that it just doesn't feel like max payne game to me, I would have preferred an original IP that uses the bullet time mechanic (like a spiritual successor). Besides that great looking game will get it when I have the money.
