Speculation of Doom 4's development has been around for a long time now. Like a nasty cold that just won't go away. One day you wake up, you feel alright and start to trudge along with your day. You think it's going to be smooth sailing on that river of hate you take every day to the office. At least one hitch avoided. Then the coffee hit, and you sober up from sleep just enough to notice that pain in your throat again.
'Doom 4...is it being made?' you think.
Adding to that congested soup of postulation, Bethesda has announced the Doom 3: BFG Edition. A thorough update to Doom 3 including updated controls -you can use the flashlight while shooting now- current gen graphics, and a host of other tweeks all undertaken by listening to complaints in the fan forums.
Just getting an updated Doom 3 would be great, but this BFG Edition also comes with Doom, Doom 2, Doom 3, Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil and new 'lost' content from Doom 3 which includes seven new levels and a new boss.
The new missions put the player in the shoes of the 'Bravo Team' the team of marines that the space marine in Doom 3 was originally sent out to save. It'll be about 2-3 hours of content and fill in some of the story gaps found in Doom 3...if you, you know, actually play Doom for the story.
As a retro-type project, it's surely a curious offering from id, who recently had a rough time with the launch of Rage but who have also been exceedingly quiet as ravenous fans clamor for a hint of the next Doom. The Doom 3: BFG Edition as a precursor to that would be a good way to go. A large step in getting old fans reinvigorated with the series, and getting newer -younger- gamers a taste of what all the hoopla is about.
Doom 3: BFG Edition will be released on the Xbox 360 and PS3 at a time and price to be determined.

I was hoping they would do that. i hope its gonna be like the pc version and not like the Xbox port. Also i'm hoping they will do something with the graphic and i'm not talking about making current generation graphic but like those graphic mods.

Console only? I don't get why they don't update the PC one too, especially with the flashlight fix and new levels. :T

Sweet. Sucks that I just played through all the Dooms for the first time in the last few months. I'm a bit Doomed out. That said I love the series, I just don't know if I could dive straight in, unless it feels new. I'd be more than happy to have it in my collection though. :) I want shiny new versions of all my favourite games.

Never finished this on the original xbox. This will definitely get me back in to complete the game.
