Today we have the first look at the multiplayer component of Far Cry 3, and I have to say that I'm not really liking what I see.
Really it all comes down to this. It's not that you don't need a form of multiplayer in a game like this, it's that you don't need a Call of Duty type of multiplayer in a game like this. A game which is supposed to be an open world adventure, with discovery and danger as the pillars which hold up its foundation, is not given justice by tired arena style shoot-em-up gameplay that adds nothing to the world at large. Far Cry 3, if anything, should have cooperative gameplay which can add muster to the story and world experiences at large. "But Joseph, the story only has one player as a protagonist!" I hear you shouting while on the toilet and weeping. Well sure, but then why not have another player be a guide of some sort? A supporting character who's comings and goings would not disrupt the narrative flow.
Anything would be better than this. A feeble photocopy of a tired game-mode who's meal is quickly gathering dust. And I mean feeble. There is nothing here we haven't seen before, and seen much better. The developers of Call of Duty certainly know their craft, and craft it well. They've been doing it forever, and basically it's all they do. You can't do it better, so why try? And I don't mean that to sound defeatist. Rather it should be liberating! It should be a "Get Out of Making a Normal Multiplayer Shooter Free" card which any developer can now play, and then use their imagination to create something truly unique in a multiplayer setting.
Not this. Far Cry 3 should be better than this.

If call of duty was a fish, farcry's multiplayer would reek of low tide. Although I must say it does look fun to a degree

If that is all they have to offer for MP, then Far Cry 3...no thank you.
Why even put in MP if you are not going to innovate?

I honestly have no interest in multiplayer in Far Cry 3. As far as i'm concerned, its another unnecessary multiplayer component that exists for the sole purpose of producing a bullet point on the box. If it just so happens to be fun, then maybe i'll play it.
If this is what they have to offer in the Multiplayer arena, I would say it neither adds nor subtracts from the package that I intend to buy day 1.

For one its looks better than the FC2 multi
Its way sexier than COD will ever be with its nice graphics an all
it feels kinda like COD and BF combined
I like the nice touch at the end.
I know its not any diffrent from any multiplayer shooter out there and probably would benefit from co-op
but I would disagree with the "Anything would be better than this"
there are waaaaay worse multiplayer games. This actually does look pretty polished and well made, its just not unique is I think what you were looking for

Looks like they are trying to hard to keep up with the competitive fps multiplayer trends. Multiplayer SHOULD have been just 1 island, 10 people, last man standing style like Battle Royale. No xp shit or kill cams. Just survival with limited ammo, man-made traps (like Rambo) and no ridiculous HUD or UI effects. Someone should make that...

I'm guessing there's going to be another experience grind to go along with the bland multiplayer. Makes me wish that some of these companies would just try to create a unique mp mode. Hell, they could just take ideas from old Half-Life mods, it worked for Assassin's Creed taking hints from The Ship. Throw in some Science and Industry modes somewhere. Sprinkle a bit of Firearms mod on top of it.

Simple the one of the reasons it has a multiplayer is because EA wants a reason to put an online pass in something. Were going to see this with a lot more games.

I have to admit, it does look uninspired. Here's to hoping the single player isn't.

Just to add some gas to the fire, Ubisoft will even put an online pass on this...

It looks decent, but nothing amazing. I wouldn't play it.

I'm torn on this. It looks like a COD ripoff, and very uninspired, but it did look kind of interesting... I like how the guns appeared to handle, and the low amount of damage to kill someone. Also the large scale fire effects might be kind of fun, and the maps look much larger than your average COD game. I'm buying FC3 for the singleplayer, but this might sweeten the deal.
