I've written about MechWarrior Online before but not since the new gameplay, below, was released a few weeks ago. At the time I had an idea what to expect but, honestly I didn't think it would look as good as it does. If you're missing old-school, heavy mech-combat...then this is it.

And I miss it.

My big problem with many of the mech games that we're seeing now, from Hawken to Armored Core, is how free of weight they are and, by relation, un-like a giant hulking machines they react. It pulls me out of the experience, and I feel as though I might as well be controlling a ninja in a robot suite rather than a 5-story statue of hulking death. The MechWarrior series was always able to capture that, all the while incorporating a tit-for-tat combat system that required careful conservation of power and weapon choices to be victorious.

Of course we also have the upcoming new Steel Battalion, but being a Kinect game it's going to have to seriously hit me in the wowsa pants for me to drop down the cash for a kinect unit just to play it. And you all know I have no love in my heart for the Kinect.  The only sliver of hope there is the fact that it's being developed by From Software, a development company that has been producing some fantastic games over the past few years.

As of right now, at least we have Mechwarrior Online to look forward to.

Mech Warrior 2 is still among my favorite mech games to date. Nice to see an old friend returning in a big way.

God, the last time I played a mech warrior game I only held single digits in my age. Fond memories, lets see if it holds up.

I love these games, as far back as Earthseige 2. Mechwarrior hasn't looked better, can't wait to play it.

Being a fan of Mechwarrior 3, and 4 pre-expansions, it's good to at least see MechWarrior still alive.

A note about the trailer though, I can see how people can diss this trailer because of it's terrible content of "Two Mechs walking in straight lines back and forth pew pew" when in reality people actually move and fly around with mechs. I would've liked to see an evolution of the Mech Parts in this series, or atleast make it have Binary Domain part destruction for casual player eyecandy. On the bright side, it looks like they're keeping their Gigantic map sizes in games, albeit i wish they were more populated by stuff.
