Hot on the heels of the CGI trailer we wrote about last week, and amongst the growing chorus of gamers requesting a new gameplay video, we now have new leaked footage of Farcry 3 in action. And there is a lot going on to see.

Firstly, I was struck by how solid the shooting looked, and how well the player is able to move around the environment while doing it. You'll see the player utilizing zip-lines, movement based cover - such as sliding behind objects from a running state - and using an open world approach to hostile situations.  Basically this is a FAR CRY (looool) from the shooting mechanics in 2.

The open world parts seem to be just as open and explorable as they've always been, but the editing of the video does make it hard to detect what is scripted and what isn't. Of course, I'm hoping for close to no scripting and more of a radiant approach to world interactions.

About midway through the video, however, everything takes a wonderfully odd turn and reminds me a bit of one of my favorite sequences in Fallout 3. I think this sequence makes me more excited than anything else found in the demo, mostly because it shows that the developers are willing to take risks with this title. Lest Far Cry 3 just simply feel like another languid shooter, it would need a multitude of sequences and areas that break up the action. After all, life isn't one long gun fight (for most people anyway).

You can see the gameplay below. Ubisoft is in the process of eliminating all evidence of it from the internet so if it goes away we'll try to update with a new location.

What really bums me out about this game is the WUB WUB SHITSTEP soundtrack.

This actually managed to seriously grab my attention which is a surprise because other then looking pretty I thought this would be another dull and lifeless game much like Far Cry 2 was. Also seems like we may have some interesting characters this time around.

I'm still not sure about this game. Sure, it seems more cinematic a la Uncharted (not to mention when it gets to the fetch quest in the cave). Ziplines and the sliding mechanic were also in Far Cry 2, and from what I remember of its predecessor some of the animations look largely the same. The part where the dude starts tripping out was kinda interesting, and I share your hope that its not scripted and radiant. We gotta see more than this in my opinion.

I am hoping for more faction interaction. Farcry 2, while great, had no factions that could be friendly. Aside from weak gunplay, that's one of Farcry 2's bigger weaknesses.

Looks like Farcry 3 has better gunplay, so that's one down. Since the main character is new to combat, there could be some RPGish elements like getting better at with knives, or handguns. Looking good so far.

I really was not that impressed by the gunplay. It seemed looked a lot like every other shooter out in the marketplace these days. But the part half way and the story elements that they seem to be hinting at throughout really is starting to interest me.
