We all knew it was coming, and now it's official. Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin's Creed III - you know the actual sequel,  not the past few games - will be arriving this October 30th. And while not much is known about the game at the moment, CEO Yves Guillemot has promised that, "Assassin's Creed 3 is the true next generation of both the Assassin's Creed brand and interactive entertainment/storytelling in general,"

Rumors were churning a few weeks ago that the next Assassin's Creed game would take place on American soil during the Revolutionary War. A welcome change from the ancient European settings we've had up until now.

Needless to say, something is needed in the series to give it some fresh blood. Though sales have remained high, Assassin's Creed has begun to split at the seams a bit critically and continuing in similar settings might begin to turn people off to the assassin exploits; especially since the series has struggled with the problem of redundancy from the very beginning.

I played Brotherhood and enjoyed it for what it was but beyond that i've been pretty sick of where AC has been stuck for a while now. Really looking forward to hear what this next one is going to be focused on. I need a new character, a drastic scenery change and perhaps some new gameplay elements to go along with them.

Would love to see flintlocke pistols and Muskets with bayonets worked into the combat.

Damn, this is not what I was hoping for at all. All of the AC games have been well made, fairly polished, and all around good games. The problem is with this Annual release date is that many people like me are losing interest with every game. I'm excited to see where the next setting is, but am not too excited for the game itself.

Also maybe I'm alone with this opinion, but I'm hoping it is not set during the Revolutionary war. I'm hoping for more of a Egyptian or Feudal Japan setting, I feel like the revolutionary war is just too recent.

I can't wait for this. The CEO also said this has been developing for three years, likely in parallel with the other installments. I hope it's noticeable of a difference as AC->ACII was.

I've had this issue throughout this whole series. It definitely needs some new blood, and I think ubisoft is scared to depart from something they've been trying their hardest at perfecting. Very intrigued to see their direction

They should drop that animus crap in the third game and focus just on Desmond. I prefer running on rooftops chased by a helicopter than some guy with a sword.

I bet if it is in the revolutionary war period, your character fires the shot heard round the world. Also, I hope 3 does turn out well, I would hate to be struggle through the monotony of the classic formula again.

I wouldn't be surprised if they really have been working on this for 3 years or so, since the gameplay leap in AC2 wasn't replicated (just refined) in Brotherhood and Revelation.

So that would be a good thing, rather than something rushed out. However the biggest issue remains that, yeah, they really need a big overhaul of this. Almost a "let someone else make this" kind of leap forward, just to come at things from a different angle and a different way.

A change of scenery and characters over the same engine is unlikely to cut it anymore.
