BioWare has released a behind the scenes video with the voice cast of Mass Effect 3. Those who are familiar with the series already know that this carries with it a lot of good names. Martin Sheen, Seth Green, and Keith David all make an appearance, and it certainly falls in line with the cinematic approach that Bioware has taken with the entire series, but much more so as we approach the third -and supposedly final- installment.

It's a good watch, and it's always interesting to see the inner-workings of the guts behind the screens, but part of me can't help but think of what Bioware has sacrificed to get here. Severelycutting downstreamlining  RPG elements, crafting a mostly linear story with an illusion of choice rather than true story defining ones, focusing the action on a more twitch based shooter model than a deeply tactical one. True, these changes have done a lot to add a broader appeal to a game which, otherwise, might have enjoyed a niche market and possibly just two games instead of three. But I'm not always sure if the ends justifies the needs.

Truthfully, I've felt that as Bioware has continued to develop RPG's they have been increasingly embarrassed by the fact that they...well, produce RPG's. And their continued quest to turn back the dial on fundamental RPG elements has been born not out of a desire to produce a better developed game, but in fear that someday, somewhere, a gamer playing Dragon Age and listening to Nickleback will drop his controller in a moment of exalted epiphany and cry out, "Wait a moment... I'm playing GEEK SHIT!"

Of course I'll be playing Mass Effect3, and of course I'll most certainly enjoy the hell out of it. But that's not to say I still won't be missing those character and story crafting moments that have been slowly left behind as the series moved forward.

You're video is below. Enjoy.

Mass Effect is a Role Playing Shooter and I'm fine with that. I get to make some choices and get to spec my character how i want them to be. There is a great appeal for this type of game. As a person who has a job (and a life outside of games), its nice to have an rpg that is not insanely long and deep, yet has an interesting and compelling story.

As for the voice cast, always top notch from Bioware.

The video seems to emphasize decision making a lot, so hopefully the game has more RPG elements than 2.

Also god damn Vega is going to be the worst character in the series. Worse than Miranda.

I had no idea EDI was voiced by a frakkin Skin job!
I wonder if the male Shep still has a stick up his ass (lol) because he had to voice the Shep x Male character lines.

Most interesting part of that video are the brief glimpses of the new default model for the female Shepard. Nice to see hair doesnt look like it's made out of wax like in ME2.

*clapclap* bravo Joseph for producing such amazing imagery xD it's only become apparent how disgusting ea is in terms of who they cater to.

Also ashman, I don't like those newbs either. If Jessica chobot sounds as drab as she did on the daily fix, I will laugh myself into a coma.

Watching this makes me wonder why 90% of Japanese games have such a bad voice over I'm not asking for hiring Hollywood actors, just don't use your neighbours to do English voices. Was watching FF being played last night and voices seems to be fine, but on the other hand there's Dark Souls. Voice acting in DS is one of the worst I've heard in a while. So bad it makes me feel uncomfortable listening conversations. If you make a AAA title, spend a bit more on good voice actors.
