I've been keeping my eye on Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City for quite a while, and I have no problem admitting that I was one of the first naysayers to stand up and say "Nay!" at the premise of the game.  I don't think I can be blamed. The Resident Evil series has always been plagued with awkward controls, and I'm not talking about the inability to move and shoot, that was a mechanic utilized to raise the tension of situations. I'm talking about...well...almost everything else. From the Left Trigger aiming of the earlier Resident Evils to the large amount of sway found in Resident Evil 5, controls were never  an exceptionally well crafted part of the series.  So when Operation Raccoon City was revealed as an action-shooter I quickly stretched my nay-glands and gave a hearty 'Fus-Ro-NAY' in its direction.

Then I started paying attention to the gameplay that was coming out.

Say what you will about Operation Raccoon City 'not being scary.' Resident Evil hasn't been especially scary in a very long time. Operation Raccoon City seems to realize this and try a different route, a more action-packed and possibly fun one. Add in a hearty dose of cooperative play and we could have ourselves quite the winner.

Watch the gameplay footage below and let me know what you think. Get into the mindset that this is not really a Resident Evil game as you know it and you might find a good dose of fun in this more action-based spinoff. And remember, spin off's can be really good for a series. It allows developers to try new things by thinking outside the box, approaching their source material from a different angle and possibly learning a lot in the process. For one...maybe a Resident Evil game with flawless controls.

Special abilities? Fire shots? Temporary zombie assist? AOE quick heals? Ehh?
I'll take this game for what it is, but it's really grown apart from the original.
The firefights looks to be like sweeping the deck and the explosions look weak.
I wanna say more, but I'll yield till I see the "other" stories.

It has potential, I'll give it that. I'm going to wait until I see it played by a more competent player before I jump onboard though, watching this video gave me a feeling that a lot of core mechanics weren't being utilized by whoever was playing..

I've been a supporter for this game ever since the first trailer.

I love the idea of 4-player co-op in Raccoon City with REAL FUCKING ZOMBIES! This game will be "scary" and intense the same way the L4D series is, watching your teammates and fearing the moment you see or hear a special type of zombie approaching.

    Really looking forward to this.

If it's a twenty dollar or so game, it's a resounding maybe.

60 bucks for this? Out of your freaking mind.

Something about the sound design in this game really resonates with me. Throw in the more modern shooter controls and a chance to revisit the best RE storyline in the series and i'm in. I just hope it delivers.
