You may have noticed about about 10 minutes of low quality Battlefield 3 footage that scuttled its way onto the internet this weekend, only to be pulled down fairly quickly by the Gods Which Rule the Borders of the Internet. Needless to say, that footage was an illegal immigration of sorts, and DICE wasn't going to have any of it.
Karl Magnus Troedsson, DICE general manager has spoken to Eurogamer today to comment.
"As people have probably noticed, when we show our games - we are very proud of what we're doing - we always want to show it in the best light. We want to show the product as good as possible.
"Watching the game in crappy 320x200 resolution on YouTube is not the way that we want people to experience the game.
"We'd rather have them wait for us to show it in its real HD glory," he said. "There are a lot of hard hours that have gone into this from the team, and naturally we're disappointed. But, yeah, things happen."
I can understand the frustration, especially since the footage quality was so low that it even had me starting to worry about the console version of the game. Karl, probably expecting the backlash, went on to reassure people that the console version would not be dissapointing.
"People shouldn't worry. We play the 360 and the PS3 version every day in the office. I don't expect people to be disappointed by this."
"We always want to show a platform that we have chosen to be our lead platform. In this case we did choose PC as the lead platform; it's the one that has been, mostly, driving development forward. That is the reason why we have spearheaded a lot of the key assets with this as well.
"We'll show this on console as well," he added, "and when the beta goes live people will be able to play it on console and they can make up their minds for themselves if they believe we've been hiding something."

I have no doubt that the console version will be the same and I can understand his annoyance with the footage.

Bad company 2 still looks great, which i play every once in a while on my 360. Its graphically one of the best modern-day fps's.

The console versions may not be PC-quality but I have no doubts they will look fantastic. After All, Bad Company 2 looks incredible and this is yet another step up.
Sadly, 'leaked' stuff is one of those things that really bothers me about th day and age we live in. People SO ravenous for new info, people SO impatient for a game they're looking forward to, that they will happily sit through, as Karl Troedsson put it, ''crappy, youtube, 320x200 resolution''.
People that get super-hyped about such leaked footage remind me of addicts sometimes.
That's not to say people can't be excited or anticipate a game highly. Battlefield 3 is one of several games giving me daily boners right now. Any players who do judge a game on leaked content, Battlefield 3 or otherwise, need to take a step back and realise if they stopped hankering for so much info, stopped going after leaks, stepped back and waited paitiently for the devs to be done, they'd be much happier overall and DiCE wouldn't have to try to defend their own game to their own fans.

I don't doubt it'll be awesome whether it's console or pc.

The only thing that can stop this from being a day 1 buy is if I win it somehow.

I hope the console version looks good

Sounds a bit like damage control :p
I can understand the frustration Karl has as the last thing he needs is gamers looking at that and deciding to jump aboard MW3

It will look fine on consoles. The game will be running at 30 fps on consoles because they didn't want to gimp visuals too much.
