Announced today, Lionsgate has acquired the rights to make a Dead Island movie and is reportedly already in the early stages of development. All I can say is, it's about time someone made a zombie movie.

All kidding aside, well not off to the side but just pushed back ever so slightly, the movie has been told to be getting its inspiration from the iconic Dead Island trailer that the game was nothing like upon release. And if this means that we might be getting a serious apocalyptic zombie movie with a heavy focus on characters, then I might be on board. Day of the Dead is that kind of zombie movie, and still my favorite to this day.

In a press release, Lionsgate states the movie  "will be an innovation of the zombie genre because of its focus on human emotion, family ties and non-linear storytelling.

"Like the hundreds of journalists and millions of fans who were so passionate and vocal about the Dead Island trailer, we too were awestruck.

"This is exactly the type of property we're looking to adapt at Lionsgate - it's sophisticated, edgy, and a true elevation of a genre that we know and love. It also has built in brand recognition around the world, and franchise potential."

Sean Daniel (The Mummy, Tombstone, Dazed and Confused) is heading up production.

Day of the Dead is also my favourite!
”Will be an innovation of the zombie genre because of its focus on human emotion, family ties and non-linear storytelling." What about The Walking Dead? Its not a movie, but its certainly bringing this to telly right now right?
    Anyway, looking forward to it.

Whether or not this movie will be good depends on one thing... WHO DO YOU VOODOO, BITCH!?

I wonder if they're going to just redo the trailer of the game for the debut trailer of the movie.

I liked Dead Island as a game but it's story was pretty bad, I can't see this turning out well.

the trailer was everyones hope for a really emotionally effective zombie story, but seeing as the game's tone is all "WHO DO YOU VOODOO, BITCH!?" with some tragic moments sprinkled within it.
with a movie that thing has been done, but I guess it's good it's getting it's recognition one way or another; because as opposed to many critics and people trashing the game I actually really enjoy dead island as a tactical melee focused zombie romp.

Will Xian be going commando in the movie as well? I hope so.

If they can script the movie to anywhere close to the Dead Island's CG trailer, then it'll be one of my most anticipated movies of the year.

So...It's technically NOT a videogame movie. Because the things in that trailer were from no videogame I've seen.

I mean, hell, if they put emotion into a movie centered around emotionless walking corpses and what those corpses are having for lunch, who am I to complain, huh?

I can see this turning out to be a generic, store brand zombie movie. Eh, I'd watch it but it's not my thing. : /

I tend to enjoy Lionsgate films, and as a general zombie fan I'm looking forward to this. Reading the description, I feel as though this movie will also be similar to World War Z, just without the actual "war" aspect and probably on a much smaller scale. If done correctly, this can be a very, very good thing. Of course, we all know how video game movies tend to be, but perhaps the fact that it's based on the trailer and nothing to do with the actual game will avoid that issue. At least, I hope so.

There'd better not be any boring ass sex scenes.
