I had the chance to play WARP for the first time today at Trapdoor's booth at PAX Prime 2011. The best way I can describe WARP is as a cute Metal Gear Solid with both stealth and, oddly, sublime combat mixed it.

In WARPED you play the part of an alien who was kidnapped by scientists and forced into a life of labortory experimentation solitude. That is until you break out and, for some unknown reason, your human captors never actually realized what your real power was...the power to warp into various objects and people. It is here where the fundamental gameplay mechanics of the game come to light. As an alien traped in a human laboratory, you find yourself able to jump into various objects like barrels and humans to 'warp' yourself through the various rooms. You have no guns or weapons so, for the most part, your main goal to is simply warp through objects and move from room to room. Each room, however, acts like its own puzzle that you must work through, and sometimes there is no other option than killing those inside.

Your main weapon, other than warping, is vibrating the individual you've warped into until they explode in a bloody mess. The problem with this, however, is the huge bloodstain which will alert other guards to your presence. The simularities to other stealth games like Metal Gear Solid, simply cannot be ignored as guards go into alarm states, search for you, and will even shoot at their own people if they suspect that you have warped inside.

All of this is then wrapped in a fairly charming design with an endearing main character who is simply trying to get out and find freedom...by, possibly, slaughtering those in his way.

WARPED is currently indevelopment by Trapdore and will be published by EA sometime in the winter of 2012.

I'm liking the ideas, but it seems really slower and easy. I guess it might be in the later levels where you're not as near invincible.

Looks really cool! One thing i didn't see in the demo though is the ability to control those you warp into. Is that option available? I think it would be a pretty cool mechanic to jump into an enemy and throw the other guards off by pretending to hunt yourself down.

I like the character, I like what I see, I like exploding the people into blood. My only issue I saw was that they were warping into a guy with a gun and not using that gun. I'd at least like that option.
Like go into a guy and shoot some people, then when they shoot back at you, go into one of them and kill them and they'll think the area's clear, then you go about your business by warping through some barrels behind them. Kind of like how you could point out guys in Prototype. Or maybe you develop those powers later for all I know.
I guess what they lead to is you jump into a guy, they shoot that guy to kill you inside them. But while they're shooting him, you sneak off into some other thing and they think they killed you. But then you'd have to repeat this several times. That's why I'd like to see the control option at least later in, to give some options at least. It might do well with just the warp and explode things though.

You kill people by making them vibrate until they explode? Count me in!

Making people explode from the inside out..This game is cute but brutal at the same time. I love it.

Sounds like an odd combination of MGS and Ghost Trick. It's a good kind of odd.
