An earnings conference call earlier today revealed that HBO Go, the streaming service available to web browsers and mobile devices, will be soon be coming to a console near you.
At the moment HBO Go is providing a large amount of steaming content to current users, including every episode of every HBO original series, which means that when it finally does hit consoles it'll just be another reason for you to eventually cancel that cable account. No word has been released as to pricing, however, and I would imagine that much like Hulu and Netflix, there will be an additional cost on top of your regular internet and/or gaming service fees.
That notwithstanding, if you don't currently have cable, are leery of torrent sites, and still want to watch Game of Thrones, you're in luck. Ultimately, this fits in well with the stated goals of the current big players of the gaming industry to move beyond games, and be the center of your living room entertainment experience. And even though these multiple services all have their own rates and subscriptions now, I wouldn't be surprised if at some point in the future Microsoft decides to wrap all of these together and serve them up as a more expensive XBLA package.
We'll see.

HBO is fairly generous when it comes to re-runs, but Go sounds pretty, pretty, pretty good.

Awesome. This'll be cool if, you know, I don't have to pay that extra fee.. seeing as I'm already paying the damn HBO subscription.

You might want to do a little more research into how HBO Go works. This isn't exciting news at all.

Think I'll pass. I already watched The Wire and Game of Thrones, so I think I'll stick with Netflix since it's my cup of tea.

So this and the TV service to Xbox are going to be the nail in the coffin for my cable. I'll just cancel it and up my internet speed. Hopefully TV on XBL will be worth it.

I really like the idea of HBO Go. Since my parents have an HBO subscription I can access HBO Go for free, so essentially when I go to college next year I'll be able to watch all my favorite shows from the PC without having to use a torrent site.
As for it coming to the 360: I've always supported this movement for consoles to not just be for games, but for a wide variety of entertainment means. I know some gaming purists might oppose it, but in my eyes it seems like a natural step in the evolution of gaming as a whole. I also think this is another step towards gaming becoming a much more accepted facet of our society. The more stuff consoles get from these big companies, the more we'll start to see non-gamers picking up consoles.
