Like Perseus entering the party of Polydectes with Medusa's head, so has Ubisoft finally come late to the Online Pass party. But unlike Perseus, they have arrived with a bag of dicks instead, and we're all going to have to start sucking.
Ubisoft will soon begin shipping versions of its most popular games with an Online Pass code which will be handled through UPlay (you know...that thing we ignore in Ubisoft games). Called Uplay Passport, it will be required to access "bonus content, exclusive offers, and online multiplayer play", according to company statements. Players who buy the games used will have to purchase the code for around $10, give or take a few dollars depending on the console.
Driver: San Francisco will be the first game to use Uplay Passport but I think we can expect this disease to infest many more titles down the road as Ubisoft joins the likes of EA, THQ and Sony in this ridiculous vendetta against the used games market.

This is just getting ridiculous. Really it makes me want to just play games offline and not worry about it.

This is just one of the reasons why I stick with single player games rather than multiplayer games now a days.

I wouldn't mind this if used games didn't cost so much compared to the original new price. Now you need to be aware of what games require you to buy an online pass and for how much, then take that into consideration when you buy a used game (in which case it may be better to buy the new copy instead).
This problem doesn't exist in digital distribution because there are _no_ used copies, but they still sell them at full retail price (despite the reduced cost of business).

Haha.
So console players now have to pay $10 on top of $12 they already pay for Xbox Live? How about you all switch to PC, this way we'll stop getting shitty console ports and you'll play online for free.

Adding Ubisoft to my pirate list

No, it is only if you buy the game used. If you buy it new you don't have to pay for the pass.

Since games get cheaper faster these days, you could buy a game new within the first few months at $30 or $40 and still bypass the extra $10 from buying it used. Because of this, I don't see an issue.

Ubisoft became a filthy disgusting germ this generation and I refuse to fund
Developers as greedy and snotty like these. Someone said PC game and it all goes away.
PC gaming is a game within itself to play, so I'd rather
boot up a CD than fumble through settings.

Console games don't need extra DRM, they already kinda have it by having to be played on a console (or emulator, but those are never equal). What I REALLY don't get is when they have this extra thing for DLC, like a season pass or something, that ISN'T included in the box new, because that sounds like something that should be like this. I mean, they want to make money from used sales, so I thought that's what regular DLC was for in the first place.

Having an Online Pass required for Driver isn't such a big deal. I don't care much for leaderboards and if I wanted to upload clips created in director mode to youtube, I'd just record it off my tv.
The issue here isn't so much that Online Passes are becoming widespread, it's the notion that they may try putting DRM codes to lock a disc to the first console it's played on. That at least is what I think we should all be weary of, the concept doesn't seem far off at this point.

Thanks Ubisoft, for once again proving the pirated version is the superior version.

This trend doesn't bother me much. Usually when you find a good deal on a used game, it's not the type of game that still has thriving multiplayer by that point. Uplay can eat a dick though. I hate making accounts for shit, especially when it's that unnecessary.

Meh.
On one hand I'm pissed that Ubisoft is doing this, but on the other I don't give a shit because they don't make any games I'm interested in.
