As if you didn't have enough good games to play over the next year, Sony Online Entertainment has officially announced that the sequel to its large scale territorial control shooter, Planetside, is currently well underway.
Planetside 2 will continue in the tradition of the original Planetside, with hundreds of infantry fighting over territory in large scale battles. Both land and air vehicles will also be present and players will be able to rank up their characters to choose and modify specific roles depending on what the current battle or team needs.
It also looks like the three main factions from the first game are being brought back, the Terran Republic, the New Conglomerate and the Vanu Sovereignty, once again with their own updated look and faction specific weapons.
As it looks now, Planetside 2 seems to be everything that made Planetside a fantastically fun game...just possibly bigger and definitely looking better than ever. John Smedley, President of Sony Online Entertainment, for instance, can barely contain his excitement.
"For years we've talked about creating another PlanetSide game, and we're thrilled that technology has caught up with our vision. I'm incredibly impressed by what our team has done with PlanetSide 2. They've made everything as big, bold and brutal as possible. PlanetSide 2 is truly representative of what a next generation MMOFPS will look and feel like."

Doesn't Sony have something like this already? I think it is called MAG.
Never played the 1st one. How is it different from MAG?

It's funny that it was suspected that Bungie would announce their MMOFPS, but "Bungie Aerospace" is a program to support indie developers, then this is announced.
