EA has announced today that they will be shutting down a whole host of multiplayer servers en masse. Some of these include Army of Two for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Need for Speed Most Wanted for PC and Xbox 360, and Skate for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Though it's always bad news to see game servers shut down, which pretty much kills game content that developers worked hard on, I suppose we can't expect the party to last forever. Apparently, neither can Sony.
"The decisions to retire older EA games are never easy. The development teams and operational staff pour their hearts into these games almost as much as the customers playing them and it is hard to see one retired," EA said. "But as games get replaced with newer titles, the number of players still enjoying the older games dwindles below a point -- fewer than 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles -- where it's feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping these games up and running.
"We would rather our hard-working engineering and IT staff focus on keeping a positive experience for the other 99% of customers playing our more popular games. We hope you have gotten many hours of enjoyment out of the games and we appreciate your ongoing patronage."

Too bad. The original "Skate" is the only game from the series I own. Always liked to log in for a quick 30 minutes online session. But they have there reasons, so I can't be mad.

Battlefield 2: Modern Combat for Xbox 360
I knew the day would come... The most fun I've had with a multiplayer.

Nothing I care about is on that list especially if Battlefield 2 and 2142 will still be up for PC. That is where most of the Battlefield community is, on PC.

Why would they even keep the demos going if the full games are already out?

OH NO, WHAT EVER SHALL I DO WITHOUT TIGER WOODS PGA TOUR 10?

Sure is a shame that we can't play NASCAR anymore with our racing friends. Dale Earndhart would be ashamed. u_u

That's what sucks about console multilayer - they decide when you stop playing it. Unfortunately PCs are starting getting this BS as well when developer controls multiplayer servers.

Tiger Woods? OH NO. Does anyone actually own this game anyways?

I hate to see Army of Two go offline. Me and a friend had some fun online. Granted, it's not a good game, but we had a lot of fun with it. It goes to show that you don't have to be a good game to be fun with the right people/friends.
