If you're one of the people who think that the Unreal Engine might be getting a bit long in the tooth, Epic wants you to look at the below screenshot. The environmental shot shows off the foilage system included in the new Unreal Engine 3. And it's a good amount of the stuff set in a fairly sprawling landscape.
Dana Cowley, PR Brand Manager at Epic, tweeted the shot earlier with the message, ""Here's a shot of our new foliage system in Unreal Engine 3. Shout out to our devs at Epic Games Korea!"
No information was given as to the platform the shot was taken on allowing us endless hours of speculation and argument. Thanks Korea. Geez.

Looks like a step forward but I would love to see it in motion. You can make static shrubbery look great but it can also move like a possessed broom.

Too bad unreal engine sucks dick on PS3 :/

Maybe they are revealing a shrubber simulator as a first project.

It looks OK? Not as good as Skyrim outdoors. I guess it looks ok for Unreal engine. Is that a bush or a tree?

well...it looks nice... but will it freeze on me if I blow up 60 dudes at once and 35 cars? that is, 60 nice looking dudes and 35 graphically appealing cars

Yeah, but can the Unreal Engine cut down the mightiest tree in the forest with a herring?

I clicked on this because I saw a Monty Python picture
AND NO REASON ELSE

the problem is, though I don't argue this is an impressive screenshot, i agree with everyone else that it only really counts if it's in motion. But also, if this is just gonna be part of a cutscene which are always better looking than the actual game, so if it's a cutscene then it really has progressed anything game related, just the way they can present pre rendered story elements. Ultimately there are just too many questions just left unanswered

Took me a few days to get the shrubbery reference. so unreal has foliage generators now eh? finally hanging out with the big boys, you know, all the other engines from 5 years ago.
well now maybe every epic game won't be set in grey spaceships or industrial areas now.

Meh, a shrubbery is nice but once Unreal 3 can give me a realistic-looking tree being cut down with a Herring, I'll take notice.
I've never really been too swayed by Tech Demos for engines. Sure, it looks great but we'll never see something quite so nice in a game. Too many limitations and restrictions to really power an engine to 100%
Basically what I'm saying is, how long did it take for those trees in the distance to pop in? haha

Well, gentlemen, we'll see about half of that detail in the actual games, because you cannot trust these screenshots worth a damn.
