We've all come to accept the fact that Peter Molyneux is driven toward grandiose statements like a trailer park baby to a meth dealer. He just can't help himself. Something in his very DNA cries out for it until he is left shuddering in the corner of his bedroom, chomping down on bowls of adjectives with a side of exultation.

Fable: The Journey, Lionhead's next entry into the Fable franchise and first in the series to use only the Kinect, will be no different. Allow me, then to introduce Peter Molyneux trying to make you cry with a horse.

"This horse is one of the most amazing things we've ever created," he claimed. "He's going to have so much feeling for you. Think about combining the creature from Black and White, the dog from Fable and my hamster from when I was a child.

"I definitely want to make you cry," he concluded. "I want there to be a lump in your throat. I want you to remember this for the rest of your life. Why would I want to make a game that didn't do that?"

I'll say it right now. I don't like horses, and I never understood people who liked them so much. Fuck horses. Fuck them in their horsey ass. But, if Peter Molyneux want's to try and make me shed a tear for the horrible beasts, he's more than welcome to try.

He made the comments at the Gamelab conference in Barcelona today where he also tried to reiterate that Fable: The Journey, the game we all saw demoed with our own eyes as being a game on-rails, is definitely NOT on rails.  Even though we all saw it. Oh...and you can play it sitting down. But it's NOT on rails.

"Some people in the audience will be thinking, I don't want to use Kinect. I don't want to jump around all over the place - I want to sit down. That's only thinking of the negatives. Think about the positives about Kinect. The wonderful, amazing thing about Kinect is that it can see you.

"The most amazing thing about the journey is that you can play it sitting down. If I'm going to tell the most emotional story in the fable saga, you'll have to be relaxed."

See. It's a relaxed, NOT on rails, sitting game. Where you move about somehow while sitting down in such a way that the game is NOT on rails. Get it?

We'll have to see how things finally work out. As of right now we're simply trying to make our way through a thick fog made up of contradicting statements intertwined with verbosity. But I can say one thing, Fable: The Journey already made some of us cry. So, job well done Peter.

    Oh, Molyneux. You so crazy.

Though to be honest I did tear up a little when the horse in Shadow of the Colossus "died".

Hmm, so the horse is gonna die apparently. I'm with you 100% on multiple levels Joseph. I hate horses. Wen t to a fair as a kid and my sister and family are petting the horse. Then, no sooner then I slowly move my scared little hand forward it snaps at me. Never been near a horse since.

Back on topic though, they really need to show more of Fable: The Journey. As one of the few people without an XBox I don't care too much about it either way, but I'm always interested to see what Molyneux says compared to what is delivered. The track record is not in your favor thus far on that one Sir Peter of Molyneux.

Let me get this straight: he wants me to sit down, be relaxed and make me cry? This makes him sound like some kind of creepy sexual predator.

All joking aside, I can sympathize with Molyneux and respect that he is attempting to make an experience that you are emotionally invested in. I am not convinced, however, that he is going about it the right way. He certainly has a lot of grandiose concepts but he fails to execute on them. I'm not sure he can pull it off because it seems like he is looking for a universal response to a game where one cannot exist. As Joseph said, he fucking hates horses, so trying to get him to become emotionally invested in this virtual manifestation of all he detests going to be quite a trial.

Peter, can I call you Peter? You need to stop trying to combine "innovative interaction" with "emotionally charged experiences." Do one or the other; if you try both and fail only at one, it will detract from the other severely. There are plenty of games that have elicited emotional responses from many people (most commonly through story) that don't go for super crazy mechanics or insane user interfaces. There are other ways to immerse players into an experience and get them to give a shit about it.

You do, Peter, you do make us cry. We shed tears for every single time you make a false promise for the next Fable title. Peter, you are an evil, evil troll.

He pretty much spoiled the horse is going to die. Sure you can tell a tear-jerking story about an animal without resorting to reminding people what it's like to lose a pet, but Peter Molyneux sure can't. I bet he won't even try.

ahh but peter you have! You have made me cry on multiple occasions! you made fable II and III which were so horrible I almost cried myself in a coma!

Eat a D*ck, Peter. I'm sick of your lies, bait switching antics and will never ever fund any lionhead game.

You want an immersive and emotional experience? Have you raise the horse, train it, and ride it around. Then some time down the road have it break it's leg and force you to kill it. Too bad no developers have the balls to make such an experience.

So Petey M has already spoiled the death of your horse huh? It's like he never learns his lesson, he keeps getting worse, he's reverse learning.

Goddamnit Peter the fable games are gradually getting worse fable 1 was awesome, fable 2 kinda good, fable 3 sucked, and fable: the journey will make my eyes bleed and the only reason i will remember the experience is because of how bad it will be!

He can say whatever he wants, within some reason, so long as he makes a good game. The thing is he lost me with Fable 2. This 'Fable' does not look like it will bring me back. The 'NOT on rails' statement was for the horse traveling, but the not the shooter portion. That's a guess from the seeing the demo. One of these days the man just might make a good game, but this isn't it. It's a shame too, because Loinhead has put out some good and unique games in the past.

    No Molyneux, no more

Molyneux is the snake oil salesmen of gaming world. He speaks but doesn't produce, I don't know why he wastes the gaming worlds time. I mean isn't there something else he could do like open a art gallery or make himself into a golden statue ?
