As if you had any question as to its forthcoming popularity, the beta program for Call of Duty Elite has now surpassed 2 million lost souls in just two weeks.

"It blew my mind...That should give the dev team at Beachhead plenty to work with to kick off the beta, which officially starts July 14" said Activision social media boss Dan Amrich via his blog.

Of course, this is just a beta program, and a free beta program at that, so there is a chance that many of these are people signing up simply for the sake of morbid curiosity. If you find yourself curious and haven't signed up yet don't fret, Dan Amrich says there is still time and, apparently, plenty of room.

"Don't be discouraged by the big number, thinking you shouldn't bother because they already have enough people - two million volunteers among 30 million Call of Duty players is a small amount. More would be even better. Once you've signed up, just watch your email inbox for an invite."

So go ahead and sign on up. Like a drug dealer forcing a bit of crack on a innocent, doe-eyed, school child; the first one is always free.

Personally I don't find this that surprising. Any time you slap a free beta out there for something people like they are going to show up in droves. Take off the Beta tag and start charging, well, let me know what the numbers are then.

"...surpassed 2 million lost souls in just two weeks."

Haha, that quote is hell funny. But like some of you say, I'll wait until the beta label is gone before I look at the numbers.

Oh, I thought they already started handing over their money before the game even came out.

I'm trying this out so I can see how much they're actually putting into the service itself and argue how they shouldn't even have to pa for all the things shown in the beta. But, most likely the numbers will fall drastically when the service gets the price on it.

I don't blame people for trying this out. Its a free look at a paid service. Try before you buy and what not.

I've played a damn lot of Call of Duty but didn't sign up. Just doesn't interest me. You think looking at a bunch of stats is going to improve your game? No, practice is what makes you better.

More people are joining the ever so large gang of mindless drones. How I love Call of Doody.

Registration numbers will be high because it's the free registration, ya know like Silver on Xbox Live. Now the "Gold" members is what is really important later down the line.

Dice was poking fun of Activision at EA conference mentioning that all their BF3 stats will be free of charge. Who would ever pay for this? Xbox users already pay monthly fee just to play online and now they have to pay for stats? Developers really made you their bitches.

I think signing up for the beta and actually supporting it might be two different things. I signed up for the beta to do just that...experience the beta. lol if I'm a lost soul then I deeply apologize. I'm on the BF3 train as much as anyone else.
