You heard correct. An internal GameStop memo is purporting that the DS Lite is no longer in production and will no longer be available when current stocks run out.  Of course seeing that it's only a month into the lifecycle of the 3DS, I can see those current supplied lasting quite a long time.  Stores have also been instructed to remove all promotion materials for the product, probably to keep people buying that than the more expensive 3DS. You're a sly one GameStop.

No word yet on if GameStop is also throwing away the manuals and cases of their current stock of DS Lite's like they do with cheaper games.

At the time of writing, Nintendo was too busy counting the money in their specialty made Money-Pants to comment.

My DS Lite is sad. But seriously, who buys DS Lites ever since the DSi came out? Its sad to hear a game system to go out of production but its for the best. As for region free DS gaming, I heard the 3DS's backwards compatibility with DS games aren't region blocked.

Did anyone really expect it to stay alive when the 3DS released?

Awwww. My DS Lite has had a busted upper screen for almost a year and now I read this. Makes me a little sad, since that little guy makes up the bulk of my experiences with a Nintendo DS system. :'(

I do have a 3DS and I'm glad for it, very much. But, I'm still a little bummed hearing about this. I get pretty attached to individual handhelds, I guess. I've had a Gameboy Advance for years that hasn't taken a dump yet and the day that it does, I will be very sad.

hey we don't do that. it's when people trade in stacks of games that they keep in folio cases that we have to make cases for them like that. it's more work for us when the cases aren't there so we want to keep as many as we can.

I'm keeping my DS lite because they got rid of the gameboy slot, but I'd love to upgrade to a DSi or XL.

    Well goodness.

That's depressing. I like the DS Lite. It sounds like some sort of low-calorie beer.

I Regret the day I took back my DS lite. I could have used that dual port for game boy and DS games. Now i'm probably gonna be able to buy one though before they all go. If i get there fast enough. Poor little DS lites Got kicked to the curb so fast.
