Sony has just announced that they are entering the tablet market. They've already announced both a new handheld and a gaming phone in just the past few months, so why not throw in yet another peripheral to the pile I suppose.
The tablets, both Android 3.0, will be released this fall and run games off of the PlayStation Suite digital content store which will include games from the original PlayStation console. I'm sure they will feature all sorts of other Tablet-y things as well such as organizational programs, email and the like, but I really just want to know if it will play Bushido Blade.
The two models seem quite different and I'm sure will have very different price points to reflect it, with the larger one (codenamed S1) boasting a 9.4 inch screen. The smaller of the two models, the S2 of course, comes in a clamshell body with two separate two 5.5-inch screens, which can be used individually or in tandem like a Nintendo DS.
You can see pictures of the new unit below and even though they are sexy as hell, like most things Sony puts out there, it's anyone's guess if they will actually take off. Sony seems to be in a "throw everything at the wall and hope it sticks" mode at the moment and I won't be surprised if most of this new stuff gets left, forgotten, and then cancelled in the same fashion as the PSP Go.

Nice to see it posted, makes me feel current, but i honestly dont and will likely never will give a shit about these tablets. I just assume get a better netbook for a comparable price.
I would have to be obscenely rich to think about blowing cash on one of these, as i would only use it for a)ps1 games and b)drink coaster. I would also have to rebuy my ps1 games and naturally lots of them would be unsupported. Then again with sony bending over its loyal consumer by removing PISS EASY EMULATED B/C from fucking expensive consoles for a scraps of power, it might serve a purpose just yet.

If the PlayStation Suite digital store tracked your PSN account purchases or your could system link through the PS3's remote play feature, then I'd probably consider it. Other than that I don't have much use for a tablet; all in all people just need to remember not to look at it as gaming device and look at it for what it is. I really doubt that gamers are the target market for this.

Themore I see from Sony the more I think Nintendo will be getting my money.

The more tablets the better, hopefully prices will go down on iPad and Motorola tablets. Right now I'm doing most of my web browsing on my EVO phone while laying on a couch. It has one of the biggest screens out of all smart phones, but tablet would have been better. They're just too damn expensive to use them as a browsing machine.

The problems that people have with the Sony tablet (cost, justifiable increases in utility over separate phone and laptop, etc.) are problems that plague tablets as a whole. It's a luxury product that I don't see having any other purpose than serving as a status symbol during the 5 min subway ride to the next street over. Most sane working people carry their laptops during commutes. I always laugh when one kid pulls out an iPad for 3 min before class starts to do some random browsing/tooling, and then has to pull his laptop out to take notes. Such is the state of affairs. Tablets will definitely be useful for some professionals, but those are not the people that companies are marketing their products to. Sony just happens to lack the fanatical fanbase that Apple has, so I agree with Sickbrain - the only reason this could be good is that it'll drive down prices by splitting up the pie. More affordable luxury products for everyone. I still refuse to buy one.

I know touchscreens are the new thing or whatever, but how long is this trend going to last? It's incredibly expensive..
As an artist, I think I find them even more useless, since we usually rely on touch screens and tablets to create our products. However, the space provided on these screens aren't enough. Artists rely on big spaces and fast-moving sources to get work done efficiently. I think any businessman, college student, and laborer would agree. Hard construction laborers that need the conveniences on iPads can't use them, they'd break in minutes. I can imagine they'll make "suitable for labor" iPads/tablets with armored exteriors one day. Fucking war-ready for when you're out in battle and need a shield to deflect enemy bullets or derail a tank.
They're really pretty though! Give me fucking holograms, Sony. Maybe I'll consider it then.
