5 days into the Great PSN Outage of 2011 and some fairly unnerving news has now come out. Even after all this time, not only does Sony still not know when they will be back up, they also don't know if your credit card information is safe. But Don't worry! As soon as they know...they'll tell ya!

Satoshi Fukuoka, a spokesman for Sony Computer Entertainment has recently avoided giving more information about the outage, simply blaming it on "external intrusion" but adding that Sony has not yet determined if the personal information or credit card numbers of users have been compromised. He also added that Sony will "promptly inform" them at the first sign of any foul play with their payment details.

Whew! So there ya have it. Not only are you not getting onto PSN, but other people may be and getting your credit card information in the process. But hey, that's anyones guess!

For some reason I can't help but hope that this is all a ploy by Sony to force it's customers to play the single player portion of games.

I imagine the PSN is doing a full audit of all of the hardware that is attached to their network and depending on how many machines they have, it could go well into next weekend. They have to be certain that each machine is clean before bringing the network back online, otherwise the intruders may have a backdoor available to them to wreak havoc yet again. I'd rather them take their time and fix it properly than to have it go down yet again in a couple days.

It is the silent intrusions they don't admit to that you should fear the most; if you know someone has your credit information, you can quickly invalidate it.

Well seeing as how some of the releases such as Portal 2 and Mortal Kombat have coop in them. People can't play the coop/multiplayer portions of their games. And if that isn't bad enough, our credit card information could be used for purchases that we didn't evem make. So, I can see how people would be angry and impatient about this situation. Plus, we all need to look at the main picture. Such as how Sony got hacked and the reasons for the hacking. Eventually one day PSN will be back up. When that will be, I have no idea.

I wasn't worried with not having online for a couple days, but the fact that some guy can just take the possibly millions of dollars in the PSN and it's saved credit cards is scary. Sony better fix up that security PRONTO.

Some are saying it is an internal failure because of the several updates prior to the outage which is a fairly good point imo but another is the case Sony just settled with the guy that cracked the ps3 so you could download games to any hard-drive hooked to the ps3 and play, im not sure these numbers are true but Sony was apparently suing for millions, the ending (i heard) is that he just has to not do anything like this again. The annoying part is that if these are hackers and it is related to that they need to grow the hell up; a company protecting its assets isn't something to make a big deal about, and if that settlement is what i heard (which im not sure about) then they seriously need to do something else, like enjoy the PSN

Not that tragic to be honest. I'll just be enjoying my big library of single player games in the meantime. :)

Well this is stupid. My family and I haven't used money stuff there, but we have used personal info, obviously. This sucks. I'm strongly disliking both Sony and Anon for this.

Day One: "Damn, PSN is offline. Oh well, I guess I'll play some single-player games."
Day Two: "Well, it's a free service. I guess I can't complain too much."
Day Three: "Okay, it's been more than the 24-48 hours they said it would take."
Day Four: "Seriously now, I want to play Portal 2 coop, what the hell Sony? Can you even give us an idea to what's going on here?"
Day Five: "Now are CREDIT CARD INFORMATION might be at risk? And you're still giving no comments to your customers? Come on, Sony! Get your shit together!"
Day Six: I don't even care if PSN doesn't come back online until next weekend or even later... but at least communicate to your customers and subscribers, Sony. Yeah, I'm not paying for this shit, but I bought your system specifically for free online play. This isn't cute or funny anymore. Jesus Christ resurrected faster than the PSN. What the fuck?
