It looks as if things are coming to an end for JoWood, publisher of the Gothic series and  later Painkiller games. Talks to save the studio from destruction have reportedly fallen through, leaving them with no other choice than to begin liquidation of assets.  Shares of the company have already been suspended and JoWood's subsidiary company JoWooD Distribution Services has already filed for Bankrupcy according to Boerse-Express.

JoWood has been in the industry since 1995, in addition to publishing Gothic and Painkiller games they are also known for their Spellforce series and as publishers of Torchlight in Europe.

Awful news, I just started Gothic 2 and I have purchased Painkiller earlier this year and it looks decent enough. Oh well, that's how it goes I guess.

Damn that sucks, the Gothic games were really quality games. I never played them but watched some Let's Plays and really wanted to try them.

Just to straighten this up: the Gothic series were nowhere near "quality games". The main appeal of those games was the fact that they were practically made of bugs.

Aaww, that sucks. I really wanted to try out Arcania (and yes, I know it's not a good game, but I wanted to try it). I might still soon in the future. But this means there will be no more support for Arcania? I was thinking about trying out the other Gothic games, too, after seeing some friends playing them.

I don't know about Gothic but the later painkiller games were shit. This news does not surprise me.
