HD editions are becoming all the rage recently with a new Resident Evil 4 HD announced, Sly Cooper games for the PS3 released already, and an upcoming HD release of Shadow of the Colossus and ICO in our future. All of these, however, are straight ports with a fresh coat of paint. Monkeypaw Games is going a step further and changing the very structure and then adding on those swanky new colors.

BurgerTime HD is their first jab at it, and while the game retains it's fundamental gameplay mechanics, it also changes the game enough to make it interesting for a new generation of gamers who might have found the gameplay of the original a little too zestless in this modern era of more bombastic experiences.

Of course the very simplicity of the original title makes it fertile ground for reinvention, and I couldn't see people being too appreciative of a reinvented Shadow of the Colossus, but I'm glad to see this approaching being taken for older gamers.  Personally I hope this is not the last we see of these.  A total reinvention of Q*Bert comes to mind. Watch the trailer for Burgertime HD and footage of the original Burgertime below.

I wonder how they'll make it challenging now that you can jump, have access to new items, and seem to carry 10 shots of pepper on average (though that may be just because it's demo footage).
