UK developer Jagex, the fellows  behind the free-to-play browser-based Runscape MMO, have secured the rights from Hasbro to release a Transformers MMO in the Americas, Europe, Australia and New Zealand in 2012.

Jagex CEO Mark Gerard stated, "There is a huge appetite for an online Transformers game." He then transformed into a car and said "action-packed" in a cold, mechanical voice before speeding off into the night to continue his fight against the Decepticons.

Considering the short development widow I think we can expect something of the browser-based variety. The action packed browser-based variety that is.

I find myself somewhat bewildered that Transformers is going as strong as it is to be honest. Though I have no interest in anything Transformers, browser based MMO or not, the concept of cutomising some kind of vehicle like a monster truck and giving it some custom paint and wheels, then creating the robot it becomes and how it transforms would be pretty good fun. Though I doubt anyone wants a Transformers MMO where we trade punches as numbers appear above our heads.

I.. don't think Jagex can do anything. Is the Jagex team even large enough to make an MMO unlike RuneScape? Something already tells me this is a well-planned move, seeing as Jagex has stuck to their own devices in RuneScape for more than half a decade, but mehbeh they don't realize the Transformers name has been ruined by bad games, bad movies, and bad publicity?

"There is a huge appetite for an online Transformers game." Really? People want that? That, and how you come across these pictures, Joseph, baffles me.

I don't think this will work. Browser based MMOs never work.

i was into runescape once but after a few months it got so boring to me i started to just not care. so I really have no hope for this even if it has the tranformer license to it. the license really should go to a better developer.
