Have you heard about the cloud? It's this new thing see? It's like, SPACE and it's everywhere. Everywhere you go! Well...everywhere you go if you're a PlayStation Plus member. Today Sony has announced that they are opening up the cloud to PlayStation Plus members in the form of 150MB of space, allowing a maximum of 1000 game saves. Online Storage can be accessed at the PS3 XMB under the Games icon, and players will be able to save to the cloud on one PS3 and then sign onto any other PS3 and use those saved games without the need for external hard drives or memory sticks.

The only downfall at the moment is the user will have to wait 24 hours after storing the data on the cloud before it can be accessed by a different console.

Even though I'm against the Download Only Games idea that The Cloud seems to be intertwined with, I am for the idea of keeping my saved games on an external server that can then be accessed anywhere. Not only is it super convenient, but it also provides a great way to protect those precious save files which encapsulate hundreds of hours of wasted life.

If you want to get in on this it'll cost you $50 a year for a PlayStation Plus account, handed over in a brown bag to a shady Sony representative.

I'm not a big fan of the gaming market turning into a download only one but I do find this a good step to helping improve the PS3. I was kinda disappointed the first year or two I had the PS3 but they've been making subtle improvements and I think this is a good sign for the next system from Sony.

Well something tells me this has to do with the Steam/Sony team up but I don't like the idea of paying for this service and 24hrs is a pretty lengthy amount of time. I will stick with hard-drives for now.

Totally abusing this for my Batman AA save(100% import to AC) and my ME2 saves and all that jazz.

Sounds like a good idea, I mean, I'd do it. But I'm waiting for Sony to fuck this up somehow and lose like a billion hours of save files and then have a massive angry mob of gamers at their throats

This sounds good, but having to wait 24 hours is a bit ridiculous.

Day wait's bogus, at least on Steam you can access it immediately, although you're more likely to have multiple PCs than PS3s in the same place. Either way you can pretty much just use flash drives as the alternative.

hmm this seems like a very clever idea it never occurred to me that there was a need for the cloud before but i can definitely see people getting good use out of this however i must say a 24 hour wait in between seems rather lengthy.
