Announced yesterday through Famitsu, new iterations of Resident Evil 4 and Codename Veronica will be released for the 360 and PS3 in the form of the Resident Evil: Revival Selection. No word of a North American release was given at the time but it was revealed today that both games will be available as a XBLA/PSN download this fall. Of course that does nothing for us who like to admire our shelved collection of games, but it does get us to play it a little bit sooner, so for that I wont complain.

"But how does it look?" I can hear you asking with baited and shortened breath. Comparison screenshots of RE4 were released today showing Gamecube version on the left and new sparkly HD version on the right. Take a look for yourself and never be able to play the game on the old system again.

Curious...I played Resident Evil 4 on the Gamecube, PS2, and Wii, and it didn't look that bad on any of those systems... Why are those shots so blurry?

Great for console owners, but I'd like to know how this stacks up against the PC version of RE4. I'm not seeing any differences beyond screen resolution (which would make it no better, or perhaps even worse, than the PC version). Hopefully there's more to this than just increasing the number of pixels on-screen. Increased texture resolution, perhaps?

Aw heck, I'll buy them both regardless.

I flipped my shit when I heard this, I'm so excited. So many hours I've put into RE4 and now another reason to revisit it.

Also, in addition to the comment i posted above, I am excited I get another chance to play Code Veronica. I always liked that game.

Be more curious to see how Code Veronica is shaping up visually. Despite having been remade for Gamecube I would prefer to see RE 1-3 getting an update and rerelease, though I guess that would detract from them being available on PSN... I can dream.

Is this a joke? Like, seriously? Why revisit RE4 for what, the 4th or 5th time? These shots look like I'm looking at them while suffering from glaucoma. The game already looks like the right, not the left shots. Just shy of a decade after release, and they're still milking this game?

This is just pointless. The game is already great as it is. I even played the PC version which is the most crappy one and it was still fine. Then I played the Wii version and guess what? Same.

While this is awesome news, I was kind of hoping that both would be available as a bundle in NA.
Also, I have no idea if the bonus content that was included on the PS2 version will be here as well. I sure hope it is.

Huh, the game actually looks kind of ugly without the layer of vaseline over everything.

Everything looks a lot more .... blocky?

The left screenshot looks like it was obviously done on purpose to show a poopy blurry quality. The right screenshot is the same as the actual game.

Okay, that left screenshot is bullshit, that has been established.

Now, I want to see how they actually improved Code: Veronica. One of my favorite in the series.

I seriously dont remember the gc and ps2 version of it being that burry. I will have to disagree with that.

Bluriness in non-HD images can vary depending on the TV and cables. It's also much more noticeable when the image isn't moving. Here's a screenshot I took from the PS2 version back in the day. (RCA cables hooked up to an ATI All-In-Wonder 7500)

It's not easy to compare it with the above screens, but you can see that the details in the background are still pretty damn blurry compared to modern games in HD.

So the HD version is just the PS2 graphics, while missing motion blur. Notice the shot with Leon and the Giant roaring. My bet is they intentional blurred the before shots. Gamecube did NOT look that bad.

So I am not buying it. Don't need another RE4.

Hmm.. Considering getting this, but I never remember the game being so damn blurry.. It looked absolutely fine on my Wii.

From my experience, playing the gamecube version of RE 4 on my HDTV gave me that blurry quality, if you play the game on a SDTV, than it won't look as muddy. But a remastered RE 4? Eh, if it controls much better with a Xbox controller rather than a Gamecube controller I'll download it.

Now the huge twist would be if there was Co-op added to this version, that would be pretty neat.

This is like buying a Star Wars HD version, when you already have the DVD version, sure one is pretty, but they both play the same movie!

I never heard of Code however, it probably doesn't help that RE1 is a cult classic so I heard of it moreso than "the best story of all RE's" especially considering their stories typically are B-movie quality anyway. I guess this is cheaper than doing a full reboot, or redesigning older RE's into RE4/5 gameplay.

I agree that these screenshots are bogus. I played RE4 on my Wii with component cables @ 480i and it looked sharp and fantastic. I personally don't think this remake is wholely necessary...

And here I was thinking they were going to release RE4 with RE5 quality graphics, it would make for a justified sell by this point since there's already been 5 other versions of this game available in less than 5-6 years.

Simply making it "HD" after the game sold exceptionally well with both the critics and consumers just a few years ago doesn't warrant it enough for me to purchase this game again.

    Yeah....the Gamecube RE4 wasn't nearly that blurry.

May just be nostalgia goggles but I remember it looking as good as those "HD" shots.

Awwww yeah! I love the HD remakes, because they give me an opportunity to play games I have missed in this past.

I'm curious as to how this will control on the xbox. Will it be similar to RE5? I wonder.
