Terry Cavanagh, the creator of VVVVVV has released a new browser game called "American Dream." If you've played VVVVVV the only thing you're going to find familiar is the retro-art style.  American Dream tasks the player with making a million dollars and decorating your home with the latest furniture, appliances, styles and even game consoles. In order to make money you trade in celebrity commodities such as Mr. T, Tina Turner and Max Headroom.

It plays like your basic market sim where the goal is to buy low and trade high but it's fairly addictive when you get into it, and decorating your 8-bit house is much more delightful than you ever thought it would be.  Themes of an overzealous, purchase addictive America are all present and the entire game has a type of eerie visage that makes it almost seem dreamlike.

Cavanagh explains that the idea for the game has been around for some time. "Originally it was a [Klick of the Month] game about an assassin who spent all his money on designer furniture, and it was called Killing Spree."

You can play American Dream in your browser here.

Hello - thanks very much for posting our game! I'd just like to give a quick shout out to its other creators. The four of us created it at TIGJam UK4 last weekend.

Perhaps it should also be mentioned that this game is a little NSFW, and not because of how addicting it is :D

Wow I was just going to play it to see what it was like but I ended up completing it

Nice Game but once you figure the trend of buy low sell high and invest all in the party goers suggestions it became easy but still incredibly satisfying

Hmmm I really liked it, but I sense some very Babbit-ish undertones from it.

What's funny is that there's something philosophical about this too, like some sort of hidden message.
Just finished the game. "I became a millionaire!"

Was really confused at first since the price and change and such weren't explained but after picking up on things like the usual low for Michael Jackson and such it became easier. Also having a lot more money made it much better. I mostly stuck to buying Rick Astley and stuff at first then moved on to Stallone and Arnold and then took the leap to Michael Jackson. $3000 Profit x50 was great. I also loved the graph just magically spiking into the text after they informed you to buy in a certain person. I was kind of sad though I only started buying furniture around 500k which makes the suggestions to buy happen more frequently it seems.

    So ya good game.

Although a naked lady with a seashell covering her vagina and not her breasts telling me to buy Arnold scared me.
