If you're hoping for a North American release of the new adult-themed psychological puzzle game Atlus isn't being particularly supportive. Speaking to Beefjack, Atlus' US PR stated that there are currently no plans for a North American release...yet.
"Catherine is a Japan-only game and there are no plans for a NA release at this time. Sorry about that!" says the statement. Of course, we've all heard that before and the possibility of a US release is always in the cards if publishers feel that a game will sell moderately well. Especially since we've been seeing a lot of Atlus games making it over to the states and doing very well in some fairly competitive markets.

Wow, I'm actually surprised...I had high hopes for this one to be out asap when Japan got it. I'm expecting a lot of censorship when it's released here.

I said this in the forum thread about it, and I'll say it here:
Atlus never announces their plans for US releases until it's well into production. It took Persona 4 forever and a half to get a North American release announcement, for example.
Just because they're saying they don't have any plans yet doesn't men it won't happen.

There's still hope :D

This game looks very interesting to the point I MAY buy it. They should release it here.

Damn, not at all suprised, but damn.

Well the game is selling well so this is most likely a good sign. But, it will be most likely censored till nigh impossible to recognize.

They provided us a cock-tease with Vincent featuring in the localized version of P3P. Top it off with various gaming news keeping up with Catherine, building up hype and a support base here in other countries outside of Japan.
And then we have the PSN Demo in Japan that's been drained dry rapidly, most of which we can blame the entirety of the world as opposed to simply Japan, as many gamers all over were highly curious about the gameplay, thus explaining the sudden rapid removal of the Demo as it reached it's cap, in no small thanks to a global effort.
Top it off, they make a 360 version, a console that's more trouble then it's worth in Japan, whose sales most likely only barely break even. A console whose main profit lies in the US where Atlus USA has proven substantially more financially profitable then Atlus Japan. Thus stating that they could continue to make more profit.
On the side of possible media coverage, other games of greater renown to the mass public or of greater infamy, say, for example, the stripper filled, crass spewing, nudity and sex focused, hyper violent and poorly mannered Duke Nukem Forever around the corner, and their still ongoing status as Niche, means that the odds are on their side that they'd just slip underneath without stirring some media idiot like Fox.
And even then, their politicians have already decided to screw them up the ass with local distribution, thus making more sexually focused games like these far easier to deal with on the export end rather then on the local end, and also marking the fact that external pressure or not, their own internal forces of so-called diplomacy are already behaving like dictators and wishing to ban and censor any modern form of entertainment-art (Manga, anime, games).
... All that's left is to ask.
The FUCK is WRONG with you Atlus!? What the FUCK!?
Japan only? Stunting your own profit like that? Pissing on the window of opportunity to pass unnoticed by media whores by other far less elegant games? Ignoring your fanbase overseas which is also another one of your lifelines in your current weakened state?
Grow some fucking balls. /frustrated rant

David does have a japanese 360, right? I don't know if any of the crew would be interested enough to import the game, but it's a possibility.

This is sad news. I was really hoping to get it state side.

I really hope Atlus reconsiders.

A newer article on Destructoid will make you wonder if Atlus is teasing us : http://www.destructoid.com/do-we-still-like-atlus--195091.phtml#comment

I expect a separate news page to pop up here about the Atlus emails. Essentially everyone with an Atlus Faithful account got an email asking if we "still like them". The backer was pink (same shade as catherine cover) and pretty much means it'll happen. They did the same with P3:FES people, calm down.

This confirms my fear... I was really hoping for a NA release but I think it might be awhile before it does. I just can't bring myself to import and play a game that I can't understand.

Fucking shit this news has ruined my day.
Worst case scenario i learn more japanese and import the game.

That's a shame. Catherine was going to be the first Atlus game I purchased too.
