Even though the main subject of tonight's Sony press conference  is still a secret, there is a good possibility that it will be the unveiling of the PSP2.  There have been rumblings and small leaks for some time, and Kotaku has reported that late last year they were told that the next Sony handheld would be released in January of this year.

In any case, details  of the PSP 2 have already been going around. (From Kotaku)

- The PSP2 has dual analog sticks
- It features a touch-sensitive panel on the rear of the device
- It has a larger screen than the current PSP
- There were two models of the PSP2 in development at Sony, one "sliding" open like a phone and the other a "flat" device like the current PSP. It's unknown which of the two will be unveiled later this week.

Or this all could be for that PSP Phone we heard about not too long ago...or the PS2 add-on drive for the PS3 that was whispered about months ago. In any case, Sony probably feels like it needs to do something to remain competitive in a post 3DS era. This may be their next attempt.

UMD Support por favor. At least a second analog stick is confirmed, and a larger screen will do so much good as well.

Personally, since I missed out of a lot of great PS2 era stuff, I hope it's Ps2-Ps3 add on.

If they announce it's also a phone, they better also announce some crazy-long-ass battery life.

Well I'm ecstatic that they finally heard everyone's pleas for a second dual stick. When they revealed the Go, i thought they would have it but to my dismay, they didn't. So I stuck with my PSP-3000, until they make a better version. I just hope its better overall.

Seems like it will be a PSP2 with a new Yakuza game.

As a lover of the original PSP (easily one of the best systems out there for RPGs), I really hope Sony can do this right. No UMD drive, physical media in cartridge form, dual analogues, and please make sure the system is 100% secure. Piracy was a huge deal on the old PSP models, and is looking to be going to the same way with the PSP3000 and Go!.

Pricing is another issue... If Sony could undercut Nintendo and sell it for $199 with PSN integration for free, it would be brilliant opportunity. Even $250 seems like a lot, any more than that could be disastrous. But with that said, there is a good chance we wont even get a price announcement, given that this thing is a long time from release.

Geez, is a phone even necessary? I know Sony has been falling behind a bit on the tele-communications, but do they really need one system with a phone, and the other without? Sure, it makes sense for people that don't want the phone attachment to get the system that doesn't offer it, but what if there will be exclusive content for those with the phone? Is this kind of thing going to separate the market?

I just hope they have a wider selection of games. I had a hard time finding good games (as in games that I liked) for the PSP.

Apparently Sony is saying it's as powerful as the PS3.

Five hundred and ninety-nine US dollars anyone?

I missed the announcement, but from what I've read it doesn't seem terribly impressive.
