Sometime in the dead of night, and much to the surprise of everyone, Microsoft has released a mobile gaming device under a most auspicious name. Something called Windows Phone 7.

Ok, so maybe it's not a grand release but mobile phone gaming has become a big market. So big, in fact, that MS is now betting it's handheld laurels that their new phone will be able to lift that weight for them.

"This is our mobile platform for games," Kevin Unangst, senior global director of PC and mobile gaming at Microsoft, told the site. "The same people who make the Halo game, the same development folks, work on this, this is our mobile console."

Adding in Xbox Live interconnectivity has certainly blurred the line between console and phone gaming for the company and the ability to win sweet, sweet cheevo's on your gamerscore using your phone sure makes the prospect sound even more delicious.

Windows Phone 7 has already sold 1.5 million units since it's launch in December and high profile gaming francises, such as Fable, have recently been announced as appearing on the platform.

“The same people who make the Halo game, the same development folks, work on this, this is our mobile console.”

That sentence struck me as really fucking weird. Bungie is now with Activision and don't own the Halo IP. And I don't think theres any Halo game made yet for WP7 or I could just be mistaken.

I'm not sure if true or not but I think the Zune HD has all the games of the WP7 or something? With the cheevo benefits? So then I wouldn't have to get a phone plan which would be good. And I think I've heard the Fable game is just a Fable 3 Pub Games version to make money that can be imported to Fable 3.

The phone is still buggy and has a few things missing that you'll expect from an ordinary phone (like custom ringtones, still trying to figure out why they didn't include it)

Eh, I'm skeptical here. It doesnt look like it could do gaming well, and gaming on a phone has been known to, well, fail. Remember the N-gage?

    Thats what I thought.

im pretty sure nolan has one already and its not really new news to me. Everyone should of heard of it by now. I think its a smart route for microsoft to make instead of making a solely portable gaming console....seeing as the psp is dead in America and with the 3DS coming out soon.....its just gonna be hard for gaming only portable devices.
