Don't you hate it when a game surfaces after it was cancelled, only for you to see how awesome it might have been if things just went a little differently?  That seems to be the case with "Hero" which pretty much went down with the ship at the time of the Midway Bankruptcy.  It was to be an open world game where you could design our own superhero except it was more of a gritty and dark affair than something like DC Universe.

You'll see the main character doing many of the same things that are seen in the inFAMOUS and Crackdown games but with a flair for the macabre that was found in Prototype.  Hero however, started development before those games were ever released.

Create whirlwinds of death and destruction? Check. Fly around and set people on fire from the air? Check.

Even though the game is cancelled Phosphor Games is currently working on its spiritual successor with a game being called Awakened.

Take a look at the 15 minute walkthrough of hero that has recently surfaced and weep for what might have been.

It´s sad to see such potential be wasted.

:'( I want... Could you imagine the potential there? I mean that game could have been truly great. Combining a fire ability with the tornado to set it on fire? My god the possibilities. God this news makes me sad.

Ah well, at least Awakened looks promising. I'm still looking for a super hero game to love, always wished for the perfect badass superhero game.. Crackdown was fun but it was awfully glitchy and repetitive, and I felt like an ass after I finished the story. Prototype was fun up until I was smacked around like a bitch by every living and mechanical thing. And I haven't played Infamous so no opinion.

I had heard about this re-Awakaning of Hero *cwutIdidthere?* and was confused by the article's title thinking that Awakening being cancelled as well which would have been terrible. But I think with Awakening we hopefully get the joy of what Hero could have been and maybe something more

I'm glad you posted this Joseph. I've seen coverage of this game on other sites but I haven't seen this video yet.

Did anyone notice when they were showing off what you could make with the character creater, that most of them were actually based off characters from other media? I saw characters that looked like Dante, Snake, Psycho Mantis, Cyclops, Cloud, Agent 47, Neo, the Spy from Team Fortress 2, and the list goes on.

@Zero: I saw the Ghost twins from the matrix and Travis Touchdown in addition to what you said.

I liked the whole customization of the game. It would have been cool to see it as a finished project.

this is soo sad to watch.....soo much potential to be way better than prototype or infamous. I mean the replay value alone is amazing choosing different powers and shit.....such a shame

This is a sad truth of the industry as it stands. A lot of very interesting if not plainly freakishly awesome game often just... goes to disappear forever.

Some great game concept by some well renowned and critically acclaimed developers are often time shut down simply because they're far too innovative and risky. If we think that what we're seeing right now are some of the most mindblowing gameplay that could ever exist... Our imagination is quite limited then.

Perhaps it'll sit on a shelf as vaporware for a while... and one day, it'll have a chance to resurrect...

I mean. if Duke Nukem Forever comes out. What else could?

How can they cancel a game like this? This is what we need! Not all that MMO crap.

if you pause at the character creation sections you see:
    altair lookalike
roschack(i cant spell it) from watchmen
    neo from the matrix
one of the ghost guys from the matrix
    dante from DMC
    marcus from gears of war
    the joker
    a shirtless batman
    cyclops from x-men
    ghost rider without the flames
the new prince of persia guy(never played the game)
    something like ironman
    load of fighting game characters
and...dun dun dunnn a alex mercer lookalike
the character personality thing looked great
i hope the "sequel" can live up to this because frankly im expecting quite a lot from it. i would work well with something like red deads multiplayer, free roam world full of other people who you can kill or team up with.

In Hero, you could have been able to fly around in a jetpack, shooting lasers at ninjas.

    Then it was cancelled.
